T.B. Falsename ACE: [stercus venio] I have learned from my mistakes, and feel I could repeat them exactly.

a mac will still be fairly current 7yrs down the line, some of mine have lasted 10yrs as usable machines, and you can get one from apple Deutschland for €499, €488,47 in the UK, which is hardly excessively pricey

smiley - cheers

Depends on what you want to use it for. At a price like that, it'll probably not offer many features, pseed, memory etc.
Anyway, I don't really want to buy a Mac.

Vestboy

I downloaded it yesterday and found it slow and not very intuitive. I'm not usually a quick giver upper but I didn't want to spend much time with it. I did like the function of getting some recent web links visually when you open a new tab rather than just a blank space but that was it. I couldn't work out how to get back to my home page even!

I didn't have it installed for long, it was quite short-lived, actually. I don't think you miss out on something, lil. smiley - hug

Like 2legs said: it is not particularly user-friendly, and I made the same experience as Vestboy: I set this to be my homepage, but had to leave the tab open to be able to return to it. I really like the little house icon IE (and Firefox) offer.

Gnomon - time to move on

I've just got a note from our security people in work:

"Google's Chrome (BETA) allows files (e.g. executable files) to be automatically downloaded to the user's computer without any user prompt."

This means that viruses and trojan horses can get into your computer very easily and destroy it. We've been told we're not to install it under any circumstances.

I've just run a search for all files and folders which have been altered yesterday. There were various google.exe filey among them, and there are lots of files which I haven't a clue about, such as SOL, VPS, VPU, DAT. smiley - headhurts

"Basically it comes down this Chrome Browser will not protect you from all of your own mistakes.

Every browser has its own limitations, IE is only worse as musof tries (with some success apparently) to hook you to their products smiley - sadface.

(copied from a post on page 1)
>>It doesn't recognise a lot of the standard web colours or fonts.
>>It alters and even removes photo's.

<<Depends on what exotic colors and fonts you suppose to be standard.
<<It does not allow (proprietary/buggy) HTML, can only be seen as an advantage.

Does not function with a screen reader (2legs) is the only valid argument counting against Chrome I have heard so far. "

>>will not protect you from all of your own mistakes<<

I'm sorry, maybe it is a mistake not to know that a browser will download things onto my PC without me having told it so, and without telling me it does. But then I'm sure that the makers of Chrome are fully aware that the majority of users are naive enough not to expect such an evil behaviour, so that is a very good reason for me not to install it again.

Moonhogg - Captain Coffee Break

I have to agree with you on that one, Bel - A couple of times I've followed a link on Google that took me to something completely unexpected (IE - Not the site it claimed to be). Within a second of arriving at the site, my anti-virus was flashing alarms all over the place. Had I not had these running, I hate to think what would have headed my way!

I know many people who are naive, not running anti-virus software and firewalls - not through stupidity, but simply through not knowing what lies out there. Any browser that just allows things to install themself is not good in my view.
