New badge
Posted May 6, 2003
I just got to be a community artist. That means I get another badge and my own set of special monogrammed crayons. I'm looking forward to making my small contribution to the look and the feel of the guide. I had to pass an audition and everything. So I feel very officially artistic now. Thanks to all the other artists who took time to assess and comment on my crazed and random scribblings.

No grunt.
Posted May 1, 2003
Sharp eyed readers amongst you will have noticed that there is no grunt in the Post this week. The Post editorial may lead one to believe that I couldn't contribute because I am 'knee deep in exams' - but this is a cover story.
The sad truth is that at 3pm on Friday April 25th, Dr. Funderlik stopped being funny.
I was attending the ex-Communist rabbit owners monthly convention at the time it happened. One of the rabbit owners was drawing a parallel between carrots and Lenin and invited me to comment. I did, but instead of producing my usual poignant yet hilarious witticism, I found myself making a rather dull remark about the weather.
The whole room fell silent. Then someone clicked their fingers and two bouncers in rabbit costumes picked me up an threw me into the street. And so, ever since, I have been condemned to wander about, eating from bins, and entertaining passers-by with very serious remarks about politics and rabbits.
Maybe one day I will recover. I am practicing a new joke. This philosopher walks into a bar with a pig under his arm. Where did you find that?, asks the barman. I found it on a pig farm, replies the philosopher. Well, says the barman, pigs aren't allowed in here. OK, says the philosopher, I will go then. Hygeine is important.
I feel I am getting there. If I am successful, then next week I will write a special double issue grunt. Lets hope it happens.

Its Easter!!
Posted Apr 25, 2003
Yes, it really is.
While lots of people had Easter last week, here in Romania, we get it this week... so there.
Yum yum .. these chocolate eggs are delicious and they're mine ... all mine...
Actually, they don't really go in for chocolate eggs here. We get real ones, painted in very intricate designs. And there is a huge meal to be had of lamb followed by Cozonac - which is a cake layered with chocolate and turkish delight.
Easter is the main event here - it is like Christmas in Romania. Which is great, 'cos I get Christmas twice.
The best part of all is when everyone goes to the Eastern Orthodox churches at midnight. Everyone brings one candle each. At midnight the lights all go out and a priest appears from behind the alter with one lit candle. He lights someone elses candle, and they in turn light someone elses - and so this chain of light spreads through the church like a wave.
Imagine being there - now imagine the church covered, entirely, in medeival frescos, with she shadows dancing all around them and the light on the faces of the people.
It was like being in the middle of a National Geographic magazine..
Well, I suppose - guide entry in waiting and all... more work. Oh well.

Tommy Hilfiger
Posted Apr 22, 2003
Tommy Hilfiger invented clothes for people who like rolling around on the beach. He was immensly succesful with this and sold lots of clothes.
Thus was the tragedy ever harder for his brother Benny.
Benny Hilfiger made clothes for men who liked running around extra fast accompanied by saxaphone music and a string of women in nothing but their undies.
He was completely unsuccesful.
My Uncle Derek bought a pair of clowns trousers, but no one chased him and he asked for his money back.
