Sharp eyed readers amongst you will have noticed that there is no grunt in the Post this week. The Post editorial may lead one to believe that I couldn't contribute because I am 'knee deep in exams' - but this is a cover story.
The sad truth is that at 3pm on Friday April 25th, Dr. Funderlik stopped being funny.
I was attending the ex-Communist rabbit owners monthly convention at the time it happened. One of the rabbit owners was drawing a parallel between carrots and Lenin and invited me to comment. I did, but instead of producing my usual poignant yet hilarious witticism, I found myself making a rather dull remark about the weather.
The whole room fell silent. Then someone clicked their fingers and two bouncers in rabbit costumes picked me up an threw me into the street. And so, ever since, I have been condemned to wander about, eating from bins, and entertaining passers-by with very serious remarks about politics and rabbits.
Maybe one day I will recover. I am practicing a new joke. This philosopher walks into a bar with a pig under his arm. Where did you find that?, asks the barman. I found it on a pig farm, replies the philosopher. Well, says the barman, pigs aren't allowed in here. OK, says the philosopher, I will go then. Hygeine is important.
I feel I am getting there. If I am successful, then next week I will write a special double issue grunt. Lets hope it happens.

I'd like to say I liked the one about hte philosopher too, but I can't, I don't believe in the existance of philosophers : I Think the rabbits may indeed prove to be crucial; have you concidered buying a top hat and pulling rabbits out of it for half an hour, three times a day? Just an idea <biggrin.

A book? I don't know ... I've already written seven. Mind you, they're all about dingo baiting practices in the Western Territories of Australia, and consequently not very funny. Thanks for the comments though!
Glad you liked the one about the philosopher 2legs and Gosho, though I basically nicked that idea of the joke with a serious punchline from comic genius Bill Bailey, who deserves to be much more hugely famous than he is at the moment.

Oh yes, and just to note, I've written an extra-long double grunt for this week, dispatched it, and got the thumbs up from the Post people - so it'll be out Thursday morning. As shall I, out like a light, as usual, under a huge pile of empty beer cans. Arf Arf..
