Four seasons did we have, where leaves once fell in one?
But no longer does autumn shed a tear
Mans intervention put paid to that
For the leaves do fall the year all round
Winters snows, outside my home
Ten flakes or less are now the norm
A frosty morn, replaced by rain
Children see winter scenes only within a book
A slide down yonder pavement
Memories of bygone days alas
Whether today or past, were better days?
All creatures suffer the changes
Unable to adapt so readily is sad
But time is endless and nature will endure
Four seasons shall return again one day
When mankind is no longer around
mine just now.

Falling leaves
you flat on the floor
or
tumbling downstairs
or
rolling down the hill
or
flat on your back
in hospital

Technology
We spend millions
if not billions
on new technologies
in our hospitals
but we can't stop cancer
we can't stop death
and we still can't mend a broken heart.

Life is a four-letter word.
We live in a world that's absurd.
There's no rhyme nor reason,
Each fry-or-freeze season,
And end like a newly-plucked bird.

The king is walking in the nude
Regal majesty is no prude
But on the chill factor he can account
To freeze his baubles he’ll surmount
All Seeing Eyes, to behold such a sight
Only to come out in the dead of night

She had a pear that made you stare
Melons as ripe as can be
With cherries so sweet
She carried with ease
So I called her salad
Because she was good enough to eat

After Reading e e cummings
An ant anoint
d'you get the point?
not sure I do
a fish a fence
does that make sense?
not sure it does.
a dog a cat
perhaps a rat
a girlish man?
a bruise a buzz
twentyfour makes two
don't know about you
can you make sense?
not sure I can
Cos I'm so tense
not sure I can.

The waves dance and splash,
The tides wax and wane.
The sea seems our friend,
But may be our bane.
Your favorite beach
Someday disappears
As icecaps all melt
In a few dozen years.

In a strawberry field forever
Let me eat and pick my own
And laugh and smile in the sun
Til I go home
In a strawberry field forever
at the peak of the youngest summer
When the last term's old
And nearly over
In strawberry fields forever
Let me once more be that child
When summers were warmer
But kinder and mild
In strawberry fields forever
I would dance and play
Downhearted never
The live-long longest day
In strawberry fields forever
A dream of that childhood
When I didn't have to be clever
or good
Or understood. When I could play
Each sun-bright shining day
With home
Not far away
In a summer that lasted
In strawberry fields forever
The live-long longest day.

They lived in love, were fair of visage
And noble of carriage
'Til that fateful day they declared their love
Should be blessed in marriage.
But he would not do as she wished him to
And she would not do as he lusted.
So soon they battled and sulked and sighed,
Now their marriage is done and dusted.
Exultation.

Rejoice! Rejoice!
as Thatcher said
at the sinking of The Belgrano
and the loss of thousands of lives
Exult! that you're not living
in Africa in poverty
Clap hands! that you don't have AIDS
or unlike them have access
to modern drugs
Jump for Joy! that you have access
to modern drugs and treatments anyway
unlike most of the world
Celebrate! the fact that you have money and food
unlike those who do not have money
or food, whether they live
in this country or not
Wallow in the triumph! of a good job
and expensive lifestyle
unlike the others who probably deserve their poverty
Have a Good Laugh! at the weirdos who care for others
and worry about global warming and stuff like
diseases at home and abroad. Why should you worry -
You've got your hoard.
and Laugh some more!
at the sick and the elderly and the poor
you're not one of them so why care?
just make sure you firmly close and lock your door.
And just Jump for sheer Joy!
At the war in Iraq
and the oil
and all that money.

To a girl (or boy)
The child had two heads,
One female, one male,
And this caused the mother
To weep and to wail.
"For sure it is cursed,"
She cried, and went on,
"Oh, what shall we do
With this Satanic spawn?"
