This researcher is obviously a spammer and a troll. And what do we do with trolls on h2g2? Yes, that's right - we don't feed them.

If you spam a site that you are not a member of, in an agressive way and on a thread that is obviously not designed for that purpose, what else can you expect other than derision and ridicule?

The reality is that there are people who visit this site whose posts are of so little interest, and who operate in a way that is so oblivious of the normal rules of etiquette that they immediately function as a source of amusement for others. Go back a hundred or so years, and these people would be the village idiot. Now they can roam the Internet, but they still serve the same function.

It is a normal reaction in a community to deride people who behave in an obnoxious or irritating way - it acts as a safety valve to avoid more agressive responses.
