Hi Jazz! Yes, Matchstick Men was a good flick. Kept me guessing till the very end. It's fun to see good actors having fun with a good script. I got conned myself one time, heh heh.

Posted. I'm always worried that what I post will be horribly trite or offensive though .
Has anyone seen Underworld? Looks good.

Sunday 5th October Angoulême (still the same place)
We are back!!!
The landlord arrived back last night, to be greeted by A Deputation; basically Psycho & the other upstairs neighbours, gleefully informing him that we (the poor little Anglaises) had been forced to endure the horrors of life without electricity & he should have made provision for this. Psycho even sent a cable down from his flat to ours. Solidarity amongst the serfs & all that, Bastille storming narrowly averted.
Mind you, two nights back it was a bit different. After spim cut off their electric in a vain attempt to restore ours, he was forced to hide, quivering under the table whilst they tried to batter the door in. I eventually had a "discussion" with Psycho, for which I deserve a bloody Oscar award & post graduate diploma in & psychology. He threatened to get his gun out to us; apparently we go "blah-blah; blink-blink" late at night....
Oh.
Plus the computer goes "tap-tap-tap".
Er.
Anyway, we narrowly avoided setting the place on fire whilst heating up tomato soup over candles & are now restored to full internet connection, but not for long if Bloody Tiscali have their way. After all the s**t thay have put me through, they are now demanding 170 euros for some inexplicable reason (I have calculated they owe ME about 700!!!!!!)
We still haven't moved. The lease is officially up tomorrow, but we are hoping to transfer to the flat across the hall (not directly under Psycho & bigger, but less rent!) Spent today painting this one so we stand a chance of recovering deposit.
A storm is forecast, but hasn't happened yet.
On the positive side Chan-Mick le Frog is in good form these days & being very friendly & helpful to us both, he has made contact with several Very Important People in the Comics world here & spim has a rendezvous with The Man next week, so keep fingers & all else crossed!
No time to read up on all backlog yet, but will soon, meanwhile, love to all, Z for letting folks know we aren't dead, merely a bit more disconnected than usual!
Squeak soon,
Terri, Yoda & spim

Like that bit about the Bastille.
Something useful I learnt about dealing with companies, if you refuse to accept anything except the very best, quite often you get it. Are there any consumer watchdog programs in France? I bet you could give them a nasty shock by threatening to go to them. Refuse to get off the line when they ask you. And so on. Write letters, call, until they do something. Basically, make yourself a royal pain in the *rse.

Hello Terri (& everybody else), just thought I'd mention that Angouleme came up over my summer. We had our annual Folk Music festival ( http://edmontonfolkfest.org )in early Aug., & among the many musicians, were Bembeya Jazz. Originally from Guinea, according to their bio. in the festival programme, they regrouped at a Catholic monastery there (a little odd considering they're Muslims, but c'est la vie! ) They were great, btw, as were alot of the people.

Ah yes, as in that song about the bridge in Avignon ( "Sur La Pont d'Avignon", that I learned in my grade/primary school French. *faroff nostalgic gaze* How've you been, Roadkill?

I'm all right, how are you?
I only learnt the first line, because I already knew it, and doing any more just ruined a tune I was perfectly happy humming.

Hay, it's moose...but maybe moose (meeses??? moce???)prefer moss or something to hay? What do moose eat?
Oh well.
*waves at Roadkill & jazz (the hottest ace in town)*
Where was I?
Ah yes, here in Angoulême. Definitely not Avignon, though I can hum it too, I think it's a bit further North. We are a bit inland from Bordeaux, turn right at Cognac.
Most odd how directions to this place sound suspiciously like ordering a round at the pub....
Do see this weeks Hootoo Home of Today for more information A1313849 .
We now have confirmation from Monsieur Le Proprietaire that we can move to the flat across the way. When remains to be seen, since he still seems to have no idea where the key is. Hope it wasn't buried with the previous tenant.
Anyway, he's not going to chuck us out, so we are thankfully putting the Designer Cardboard Box idea on hold.
Just to amuse you, I shall present google's translation of the latest Tiscali nonsense.....

Hi Abbi, hi jazz, hi Roadkill...plus any more of "You lot" who are around.
Just got your email Abbi, will reply a bit later as we're just off to the launderette.
for the smiley; I reckon we're going to need it.
*sigh*
Oh well, better go, I am detecting smiley; he can't wait to escape the close confines of this little place & immerse himself in the joys of the washing machines of greater Angoulême. It's all those soap suds that get him going I think.....

On the other topic Roadkill >> you are never trite. You do have the quick wit also - not trite either!
Mag Meg is looking for this thread. I'll give her a link. She is around Mondays and Tuesdays PM usually (at work)
Terri have you met her? Great gal, she is a midwife with a big heart. (she says big ears too - for listening)
Smart as a whip too

Hi everyone. Don't know if I can live up to the intro given by Abbi but hello anyway. I often lurk but don't often contribute as I'm supposed to be working on Mondays at my factory job (Midwifery on Tuesdays and Wednesdays). Look forward to chatting sometime
