Hi ZSF! You mean the lack thereof??? Happens...
Osiyo is a Cherokee greeting... Gandark must have been the name he was using when I ACEd him..

Ah! Have you read the entry which started out being called 'Monumental Arrogance'? Can't think what it is now, although I recommended it. Well worth a gander.

A85006 is the Recommended entry.
A840403 is the original - look out for the amazing PR thread!
Enjoy!

wow three years and I never actually replied to my ACE.
hi! since I joined I have gotten way into the whole h2g2 thing. I now run a couple clubs and societies and have written several (unedited) entries. I learned GuideML and all that. I still use the name "Gandark" but am primarily called "Nerd42," and it's stayed that way for a long time now.
I went and looked up this thread again, and want to say that, yes I actually read it back then. I don't know why I didn't say "hi" ... oh well.
I would like to talk to you if you have time. (checking your space it looks like your latest post was in February ... so it might take a while but I don't care ... lurker?)
I'd like to ask a few questions because I'm thinking of becoming an ACE myself:
1. What made you decide to become an ACE?
2. Have you any advice on whether I should try to become an ACE, and advice for what to do as one?
3. How in the world did you manage to get links in your conversation postings like that? Mine always come out wrong...

Hi! Finally..
Let's see... we'll do this logically - or as logical as I get anyway...
1. What made you decide to become an ACE?
> I am fairly outgoing and wanted to give something back.
2. Have you any advice on whether I should try to become an ACE, and advice for what to do as one?
> A lot depends on what you like to do. You might want to look at all the <./>Volunteers</.> schemes to see which you prefer before making a decision.
3. How in the world did you manage to get links in your conversation postings like that? Mine always come out wrong...
for the above you would do it like this (without spaces)
< ./ >Volunteer< /. >
For A pages or U pages you would just put the page itself, like mine is <./>U162939</.> so I would put < ./ >U162939< /. >

I've looked at the Volunteer schemes and I think being an ACE is what I'd like to do, if I am going to do this ... which I haven't decided ...
OK lemme see if I'm doin this right...
<./>Welcome</.>
<./>Volunteers</.>
... so that only works for those special word-things? like Welcome and Volunteers and FrontPage or whatever? darn. oh well.

It will create a link regardless of the word - it just may not link to anything valid... like <./>Rutabaga</.>
Oh and I was in error on something for page A or U numbers you don't need to put the <./> thingies around them... they are automatically converted.

The Artist Formerly Known as Nerd42 Posted Sep 22, 2005
umm ... what?
OK, say I want to do this: Just Google it!! in HTML ... it would come out as a link saying "Just Googld it!" ... can I do that in a conversation posting? that < ./> </. > thing doesn't have anywhere for putting a URL ...
and it looks like they aren't making new ACEs anymore. Why's that? Nerd42

They will again. We go through periods where we don't recruit and then we pick back up again. If you post to the page someone will most likely be able to advise you as to when they'll be recruiting again.
For outside links you don't need to use html and an HREF - just type it. Keep in mind that the <./>HouseRules</.> mean many links will be removed for moderation until someone can view content - this is a family site you know...
For your page you might want to study up on GuideML. While it doesn't work in conversation threads it does help you make your pages much nicer.

uh ... I know GuildeML. check my page ...
on the other hand, don't. I haven't updated it in a long long time, so it's crappy. But it's GuideML-enhanced crappyness.

I seem to be unable to get my club/society going again. It used to be a pretty cool game, but now I can't get any players. A989698 It's in the "Browse" hiearchy and I got an ad in the Classifieds at but still nothing ... any ideas?

Bring it up in some of the communities here... maybe a pub or two...
Sorry for the delay in responding - I've been having technical difficulties.

Hopefully I'll have my computer back soon... what is the game about?

It's an interactive fantasy RPG universe. A989698
What it is about depends largely on the interests and participation of the users. For example, if I can get somebody to defeat the monster currently attacking the town square, I will build a palace housing a King that will congradulate and reward them before sending anyone who will go on a sort of "grail quest" at the end of which is knighthood for all participants who desire it. If people want to trade, I'll open up shops in the marketplace. Lawbreakers (economic or magical) if interested enough to try breaking the law will get groups of law-enforcing players after them etc. I've kind of thought up an expanding sort of thing, it has a tree structure to it. Every action is like opening up Pandora's box. Nerd42
