What Milla said. I had a great feeling of relief on reading your post, Bea.

Poor Dai, no wonder he was crabby with allthat fluid build up. Hopefully that willget him back on the road to full recovery soon. Rest a while and get some good sleep.

Cardiac tamponade is the medical term, an unusual complication following heart surgery, and a potentially life threatening condition. So, a bit of "last night a GP saved my life"
He's perking up well in hospital - in his own room, which is lovely, and they've moved from hourly, to 2-hourly, to now 4-hourly checks. breathing unaided, and oxygen levels stabilising. Sleeping in between checks, and having normal dreams. Colour good, appetite back, and requesting Pear Pickin' Porkies and Dairylea Dunker tubes
Hopefully the drain line will come out today, but he'll remain in hospital under observation for a few days.

I can only send my continued best wishes for a quick recovery. Those complications sound awful, and his improvement sounds very promising

Relieved. I hope that wasn't quite such a close shave as it sounds. Is he less delirious now?

Hallucinations and delerium largely gone - he's been in great form today. Back onto a normal ward - shame to lose our private room, but it does mean he's getting nearer release. And he's right beside a window with a lovely view of the "Balls on the Falls"

The nurse was trying to take blood this evening when I was in, and failing to find a vein. The poor dear is like a pin cushion - bruises and stick marks at each inner elbow, wrist, back of hand...
INR levels 2.85 - hurrah! (they have to be between 2 and 3 - his were over 10 a few days ago)
Labs shut over the weekend, so we look forward to getting some more results and prognosis tomorrow

Very encouraging and thank goodness you got him to a doctor!

CT scan at lunchtime today - will give the surgeon a good 3-D image of the heart, to check that the valve is in place correctly.
We're hopeful of a release before the end of teh week.
But it's 4 weeks today since the operation was done, and in that time, I think he's been home a mere 11 days.
