Recovery is long and slow and painful.

He's not sleeping well - can't get comfortable, and mind buzzing with things - which means I don't sleep well either. Even when he does settle into a sleep, I can hear the heart ticking!

I miss getting outside, walking the dogs, getting to the gym...

I have some relief team - his sister was able to come over and let me go dancing on saturday; his mother is coming tomorrow afternoon, and his good friend tomorrow evening (when I have puppy training school to go to). And there's a few others who have offered help, I just need to co-ordinate it!

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

At least you'll be able to find in a dark, silent room, Bea.

As the others have said, though, can you not get someone else to keep an eye on him while you go out for a bit?

smiley - hugs for you both.

Thanks.

I hadn't thought about the sleep deprivation myself - I'd foolishly assumed we would all get some kip once he was out of hospital. But the wee small hours are punctuated by "I need a pee/ drink/ painkiller/ pillows sorted", interspersed with the odd paranoid ramblings, nausea, and "Is my wound leaking?" type of worries.

Seeing the GP this morning (if I can manage to drive the car and not feel like a zombie)

Are you off work with him? It seems impossible that you work with all this going on...

Phooey, lost a detailed reply in the ether.

Yes I'm off work - they've been very understanding, let me have time to go to the hospital during visiting hours etc. It's out of annual leave, but that's OK.

Had a slightly better night's sleep last night - we both went to bed early (about 10.30) and it was 2 am before Dai stirred. He was a bit restless - PJ top off, PJ top on, pain killers, drink - but he says he was having normal dreams as opposed to the nightmares of the past few weeks, plus more importantly he RECOGNISED they were dreams. The scary thing about the nightmares was that he was convinced they were actual events.

Mini was brilliant - she was exhausted after her afternoon walk and then evening training class, so she slept through most of the stirrings.

I learned some basic self-hypnosis/ relaxation techniques back when I was pregnant, and I still use those in e.g. the dentists, or when I cant' sleep. Listening to Dai's shallow breathing reminded me that not everyone knows these techniques!

True...and even if you do know them, it's not always easy to use them when you need to, of course...

Hurrah! Found the rings!

He'd taken his wedding rings off in the hospital before the surgery, and I wore them on a chain round my neck. But gave them back to him a few days before he left hospital.

Except that they were still doing X-rays, and so he took them off, and put them somewhere safe. So safe that we couldn't find them smiley - erm

Until this morning, when I was dong some laundry, and checked his trouser pockets......

Cue lots of "what has it got in its pocketseses? My precioussss!" etc etc

Thank goodness for that, you must have done a happy dance when you found them.

How is he doing this morning? Are you getting a bit more rest?
