This is wonderful news to hear. How long is he expected to stay in hospital? Were you given any indication, before the op, of how long it was likely to take before you get him home?

Fingers crossed, out on Friday. They'd estimated a week to 10 days, so that's not a surprise.

He was talking a lot of rubbish today - but that's to be expected. I've just received this text from one of his best mates Graham, who called in during visiting hours this afternoon;
"It will take him a time to come down off the meds. One of the nurses had a chat with me to confirm that he wasn't thinking straight. This was while they were moving him to beside the nurses station so that they could keep a closer eye on him! They have the situation well under control"
His sister, who visited this evening, has just pointed out that it is only his word I have that he's getting out on Friday - and that's not the most reliable! So I shall double check with some medical staff tomorrow.

Ugh, tough day.
I'd taken the day off work, and was well on top of "sorting" stuff - dogs walked round Hillsborough Lake, cleaners been and blitzed the floors, tesco grocery delivery on time, bed washed and changed. And I'd been being creative with the fruit basket - banana bread made, apple compote simmering.
I was getting nonsense texts from Dai - nothing new there! But he seemed convinced he was getting out today, pending blood results, and could I come in. So in I traipsed at 12.30. No, said the doctors, they were trying to stabilise what warfarin levels to give, and there was a 24 hours lag, so it would be at least tomorrow before he was released.
No worries, I came in again for visiting at 3-4, he was a bit ditzy, but within reasonable levels. His sister did evening visiting, and reported similar.
At 9.30 pm, the ward sister phoned; he was being very agitated, and could I come in. Put the dogs in their run (much to their annoyance) called a cab, and went in...to find him sleeping (after having being given some sedatives)
The ward sister was trying to find me a letter of complaint he'd been writing to BT. When he did wake, and I asked him about it, he was convinced Bt were going to charge for some services to patients. I'd been getting similar garbled messages earlier, and surmised he'd been using his phone to surf, click, etc, and was finding sites and articles which he thought were about him/ relevant to him etc.
I've taken the phone back off him He's not supposed to have it on the ward anyway, and it's just adding to his confusion.
I sit wrong for me to feel jealous of all these patients who have their op, take their meds as asked,and are released in a week?

Oh dear Gods, his warfarin levels are OK - yay!
But the hospital wants him to stay in another 24 hours for observation.

And he's home! resting in bed currently. I may need to get him a little bell to ring when he needs something. And the hardest bit is probably going to be trying to stop him doing everything himself.

Great news Bea. I am so glad. Home is the best place to recover---just as long as he doesn't drive you nuts!

I'm rather surprised by how noisy a mechanical valve is - he's not so much the Tinman as the ticking crocodile from Peter Pan!
