My Goodness!!

That's an inappropriate title, but what the hey.

According to that rotten face-goo advert there are "seven signs of ageing" or something like that. I have no idea if they mention the one I recognised in my good self recently - my favourite crisp flavour is now "ready salted". Just like I remember my PARENT'S being!

Ironically, my Dad now likes stupidly exotic crisp flavours like "Chicken and Sage" and "Marzipan and Aardvark" or something. It's a great scam - give the crisps a silly flavour, put a touch more air in the bag and sell it at a Big Price to whatever they call the class of consumer-drone that will pay out far too much money for "sophisticated" sounding food.

I'm one to talk, I rejected Supermarket own-brand crisps for a named brand for NO REASON. And it cost a whole 10 of your British pence more.

Oh, and people who are under the mistaken belief that I am a miser (I'm actually just not stupidly frivilous with monies) might like to know that I recently spent some money on a Game Boy Advance for playing games whilst on the move. I love travelling, but I hate boredom. And the radio has a habit of only getting a good reception on rotten radio stations that play 24-hour bagpipe music when I'm travelling, so it's nice to be able to do some harm to monsters in Doom II whilst on the Express Bus.

Zagreb in Edinburgh

Yes, I saw TWO Edinburgh Festival shows this year - double my last year record.

First off, Mike Daisey with "21 Dog Years" an entertaining monologue about the awfulness of corporate work-culture and the ease of rising through a corporation during the short-lived dot.com boom of the late 1990s. It was most good, although Mr Daisey is one of the sweatiest men to have lived. And he looked embarrassed when my mate's girlfriend pestered him for a signature in a chance meeting in the pub afterwards. And he quickly fled.

And then there was Late and Live. The compere was great as was Simon Munnery (What character is this he is playing with beard and broken arm? Oh, he really does have a broken arm and that's a real beard) and the angry Irish man. I can't comment on final act The Umbilical Brothers as I fell asleep during most of their act. But, like a narcoleptic fool, I kept jolting awake to applaud after each segment of their act - "ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz *huh* Bravo! *clapclap* ZZZzzzzzz".

Overall, jolly good. Remind me to go next year.

Drunk mate

So yeah, there's me just got in from work, removed work clothes and sitting in front of the PC in my boxers on the internet (I was posting my "British Film Industry" rant, before the innuendo-merchants start up) when the door-buzzer goes.

I assume it's my brother, but it turns out to be my mate Scott, pissed-up and "excitable" and undoubtably thankful that I thought to put trousers on before answering the door.

I'm not used to drunk friends showing up on my doorstep. And after quickly preparing a bourbon and coke in order to "join him" a little we head off back to the pub he's recently left, where they do good chilli Nachos.

We're going there tomorrow night as well, and bringing W****E and (possibly) Nizzy. The barstaff have been forewarned.

Jump-starts his writing arm again

I've been inspired to start writing again. I'm working on an as-yet untitled short story that, unusually, I have sketched out the whole plot for rather than making it up as I go along. This bodes well for it being finished.

I sent the first few pages to a friend via the power of the internet and he said it was reminded him of Roald Dahl's short stories. This is probably a good thing.

Oh, and I have a name for my screenplay. "Four Horsemen".
