As for Tom. In the book I can't remember there was a situation where the main character had to purchase his first condoms. The book was set in the sixties or seventies and the character (unwilling to visit a chemist) had to spend the whole day getting progressively shorter haircuts in the hope of a barber asking him "something for the weekend, sir?" In the end he stole a gross of condoms from a delivery man who was stocking up a vending machine in a pub. When I read the book I was fifteen and the thought of buying condoms (which at that age I most definitely did not need) could bring me out in a cold sweat. I related to that.

By the way, if none of us sing, none of us play instruments and none of us dance -- aren't we the Spice Girls?

I have an idea! What we need is a look. A unifying look that our fans can relate to. Thus, I suggest we take style tips from grandmaster flash and the furious five.

Grandmaster Flash is what you use for those really stubborn limescale marks and the furious five is a metaphor for a peculiarly male pursuit.

I think we'd established we were not, not influenced by Daft Punk.

But we are, by majority, not influenced by the Stones and, less so, not by the Beatles.

What about modern influences? What specific genre of music do we not belong to?
