"And no one says a word"
I thought you just did, Dragonfly.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words. My father
loves blue spruces. I remember many family
trips in Maine or New Hampshire, when my father
would spot a tiny little evergreen tree by the
roadside. He would stop the car, get out, and
gently dig up the sapling, and put it in the
back of the car. He'd transplant it on his on
land. That's one reason why he has such magnificent
evergreens now. But the redwoods turned to
be bald cypresses. They're nice trees, but they
aren't what we expected.....
Hansel and Gretel visited a life-sized gingerbread
cottage. The only difference with mine is that I
won't allow witches inside mine.

Glad you like it, LHG.
The frosting is very artistic, too. And the roof and exterior
walls are waterproof, so they won't get soggy and buckle
if it rains before New Year's.

NO WITCHES!??? ... That's religiously discriminatory against Pagans... I love it when people say they cast Harry Potter out of their lives because they fear the occult. People are soooo very ignorant...
Paul.... you wrote:. He would stop the car, get out, and

That's illegal now, isn't it!??

Of course it was illegal, Dragonfly.
Shea, I didn't want any children to be
afraid to enter the cottage because there
*might* be witches in it. Are you saying
that you are a witch, or might want to be
one someday? I can make an exception for
you if it will help.
I don't know what to say about the pagan
religious discrimination issue. Is paganism
considered a religion now? I don't want to
deprive anybody of their rights. Does anyone
have any suggestions for balancing the rights
of witches and children?

Paganist have always been religious. I think I meant Wicca earlier... Sorry... The whole Harry Potter issue is screwed up. Some people are very paranoid about something they failed to educated themselves about. ::sigh:: It's sad.
I also wanted to get in the illegal foliage transplants... It used to be legal to go and get flagstone near Grand Junction, CO(in the Grand Valley of Colorado, on the Western Slope of the Rockies). My granddad, dad, uncle, and I think, a friend of my uncle, all went wherever it was you went to... and got flagstone... it's cool... it's also the front patio-what-have-you of my grandmother's house... all worn out now... special...
Fairness to children and witches!?? Herrrmmm.... That's a toughie.

Margaret Hamilton, who played the witch in
"The Wizard of Oz," spent the last 40 or so
years of her life inviting children to her
house so she could show them that the person
who played the scary witch was a very nice person
in real life (as, indeed, she was).
My father had tree lust. In his defense, I argue
that he gave the little trees a good home, where
they weren't crowded out by taller trees. In more
recent years, he has gone around his property
looking for little saplings that have taken root
where birds have dropped seeds. He transplants
these to his garden, and eventually places them
in permanent spots where they can grow properly.
He would have done a good job running a tree
nursery.

I'm rescinding the "no witches" restriction
for my gingerbread cottage. Hansel and Gretel
are in college now, anyway, so there's not
much danger of their getting lost in the forest
again.....

I don't know about that, Paul... they don't teach you how not to get lost in the woods in college...

After working in a March of Dimes haunted house one Halloween season, they had a party to thank all the volunteers. It was the Dracademy Awards, and they gave out Oscaries to the best performers. I was very pleased to win an award. However, after coming home and showing it to my parents, my father looked at it, saw my name with the word "Witch" underneath it, and said that he always knew I'd win with one of those someday.

Dragonfly, you are so right about what they
don't teach in college!
Last night, I dreamed I joined the Salvation
Army. I had to find their headquarters, which
was back in the woods somewhere. Well, I found
the place, but then got way lost in the woods
and spent hours trying to find a familiar
landmark. It was frustrating!
