Dragonfly. "A poet can survive everything but a misprint"-- Oscar Wilde Posted Jul 19, 2003
I had my hands on a little ladybug clip on watch at work yesterday. I looked everywhere for its proper home. I thought about asking my manager where the little b****er belonged, verbatim. But I decided not to, since she's married to an Englishman and might not think I was funny.

My time has been TERRIBLY colorful lately!!! LHG
There was a bunny and a four foot long snake in my backyard yesterday... and a storm last night... and the night before the snake, this wild lightning show got up close and personal... And I didn't work Saturday or Sunday... a bizarre weekend!!!!

**puts on smart-arse hat**
There are three breeds of snake native to Britain: the adder, the grass snake and the slow-worm, although the latter is not technically a snake but a lizard with no legs.

WOOHOO!!!!
Hee hee....
Not yet. Ten months and I will, but only from June-Sept... then I'll be back in Colorado, USA for a couple of months, just so Scotland Yard doesn't interrogate me. And then I'll come back for Guy Fawke's Day, of course.... Dunno just yet when I plan to drop back in on the States after that, but sometime, I imagine, after the January London Meet. Of course.
Hee hee...

I didn't know about the three types of
snake in England. Now I know why they
chose the name "Blackadder" for that
tv series.

When I was a kid we used to go out collecting slow-worms. No reason for it, and we didn't hurt them or anything.
I guess it made a pleasant change to setting fire to rubbish bins.

What did you do with them when you'd collected them?

We used to scare the little kids by telling them that the slow-worms were deadly poisonous. The we'd put them back where we found them.
A boring childhood really

So GD, interesting close season the mighty Blades are having - Warnock charged with bringing the game into disrepute and 2 sections of the stand closed down because of poor fan behaviour ?

That's because they're not very scary - in fact they're rather sweet little fellas, I've always thought.
I've yet to see a snake in the wild, even though I often visit some local sites that are particularly noted for their adder populations. My brother Ed, who is a nature reserve warden up in Gloucestershire, tells me he only recently saw his first after nearly a year on the reserve, a five-foot grass snake.

when i worked at summer camp we had a map that we would mark snake sightings on. i (fortunately) never saw a snake, but we caught a poisonous one the second year i was there. it was either a rattlesnake or a copperhead, i forget which.
we get grass snakes near where i live. kinda cute and perfectly harmless - aside from scaring the daylights out of my former monster-in-law
