Against the backdrop of the election campaign, Donald Trump has been highly critical of the Biden-Harris administration's response.

Biden has responded by condemning a number of claims by Trump and other Republicans - BBC Verify has been examining them.
Has government money for hurricane victims been spent on migrants?

At multiple campaign events since the hurricane struck, Trump and his allies have claimed that government money earmarked for disaster victims has been spent on migrants who crossed illegally into the US.

“Kamala spent all her Fema money - billions of dollars - on housing for illegal migrants," Trump said in Michigan last week.

This claim is false.

He says whatever he wants to be true. His friends repeat these lies.

And yeah - they keep saying that FEMA's response was poor. Nothing could be further from the truth. But if you try to correct them, they will become frantic and shout. So the second anyone says anything about it, I refuse to discuss the matter any more.

Also: the reason they don't have MORE money:

1. Congressional Republicans refused to allocate more money for emergencies.

2. When the first hurricane hit, Congress was already on vacation. The (Republican) Speaker of the House refused to recall them to vote more money.

Why? Because then they can lie some more and say it was the Democrats. And because all the people in the world now watch ONLY the television 'news' they LIKE, they never find out differently.

Guy Fawkes is more like Halloween.

It used to be, I'd have to explain Halloween to non-Americans.

These days, everybody has their own 'traditions'. Which is funny. They didn't know anything about it until all those movies came along.

When my 2 "kids" were very youngThey asked if they could go out "trick or treating" ?

I said to them What is the trick ? as treat was sweets etc

They'd no idea, as it was an American style set up (no disrespect)

I informed them and for the "trick" if neededI gave them a can of that "silly string stuff" each!!!

Nobody's done a 'trick' in at least a hundred years.

Of course, back in the 1800s, the farm kids did them all the time.

They'd run off with someone's garden gate. Or put a wagon on top of the schoolhouse. Stuff like that. It was partly to keep kids out of mischief that people started giving out the candy.

Nowadays, people would be afraid it would escalate - and they may not know their neighbours well enough for that nonsense.

One night as I was going up my street, to where my RAOB Lodge was in a local club

There were at least 14 "kids" at the top of the street and 3/4 went to a house - knocked on door - trick or treat etc - then another few of the group did the same...
It took away what "trick or treat" meant

People don't do it as much any more - Covid kind of killed it. Before that, when we lived in Philadelphia, we'd all get together on one porch and order pizza. The kids could come to that porch and get their candy and be admired. (It's for little ones, anyway.)

The reason we did that was because all our houses had very steep steps - about a dozen of them - and we didn't want all the parents and small children to have to climb up every single set of steps to get their candy bars.

That was a lovely neighbourhood - semidetached houses from the 1890s, beautiful things. Only house I've ever actually owned. Shame we had to sell it and move, but the economy changed and the jobs did, too.
