Happy Potter Day!
Vamster Posted Aug 2, 2005
Excellent choices, but then again, they all are. I love it when the main action's in Ankh Morpork or the UU, like it is in those early ones.
I think Eric was my first TP. I had thought it was Thief of Time, but I recently found a book wishlist i made one rainy day with that on it, so there must have been something else before then. He summons a demon, but gets Rincewind, is that right?
Happy Potter Day!
Tavaron da Quirm - Arts Editor Posted Aug 2, 2005
Yes, right. It's quite funny and I love the luggage anyhow.
As usuall everything goes wrong and they're trafelling through time a whole lot.
My first one was Moving Pictures I think. Not so good in my opinion.
Happy Day!
Vamster Posted Aug 3, 2005
No, it's not as good as the others. Although my least favourite is Montrous Regiment, which I didn't really get and the bits I did get were kind of predictable. But I think I've said that already. And you haven't read it
Science of Discworld is good, because it's completely wizards, with three of the funniest characters- Rincewind, the Librarian, and, my personal favourite, the Bursar! I mean, imagine leaving the Bursar in charge of the safety mechanism on a nuclear reactor!!!
The actual story is a tad short though, which was disappointing. Interesting though the science is, it didn't beat TP
Happy Day!

No, I didn't read Monsterous Regiment, I could have bought it, but it didn't sound very good anyhow, so I bought another one.
I'm now reading Intersting Times, but I've only started.
I've read Science of Discworld II, interesting, but as you said, too little story.
Today I was searching for new shoes, and what did I buy? Another book... (not TP)
Happy Day!

Good Call
Interesting...mmm....Is that where Rincewind goes to the Agatean Empire with the old guys?(I'd say a bit more, but you may not have read it yet...)
What's No.2 mainly about? (e.g. Science 1 was mainly about evolution of all species and solar system)
Yes! Common occurence!
Happy Day!
Tavaron da Quirm - Arts Editor Posted Aug 5, 2005
Yes, that's the one, Cohen has seems to have found a few others...
It's... well... what was it about? erm... more physics I'd say.
you too?
how far are you with HP? Mala finished already, tell me when you've done it and I can tell you what we think may happen.
I've written a new entry, you can find it on my PS. It's something funny.
Happy Day!
Vamster Posted Aug 7, 2005
Physics? Well that's quite interesting without the threat of the Van der Graaf generator, or exploding electrics etc., which come with the practical classroom version
finished before went to Italy! I have no idea what's gonna happen. I'll have to reread it in a few months time. the info's not quite processed, lol.
i shall go and check it out...
Happy Day!
Vamster Posted Aug 9, 2005
No idea, really, lol. Aren't there four to be found? According to her recent interviews, it's reasonably easy for observant readers to find one of the horcruxes- I haven't found it
What's Horcrux in German?
Happy Day!
Tavaron da Quirm - Arts Editor Posted Aug 10, 2005
no, there's only one. The soul has 7 pieces:
1 remains with Voldemort
2 the diary
3 the locket
4 the ring
5 the goblet (not found yet (probably in Grimauld Place), but we know what it is)
6 I've forgotten that one
7 ?
I'll have to read them all again, but I fear that it may be Harry himself. It was already said, that something of Voldemort reamined in Harry (parsel...), so why shouldn't it be the horcrux? He didn't mean to do it I think, it was an accident, like the whole thing with Harry was an accident for Voldemort.
I don't know what it is in German, the German translation is not published yet.
Happy Day!

Ooo, what a thought! A genuinely exciting theory though, and it all fits, the clues are there...nasty.Perhaps he hadn't finished his work yet, but the power just...Mind if i put it to my other Potty friends?lol Seriously, best theory yet
however, it's ot consistent with the prophecy. If you're right, it should have said, if one dies the other cannot survive. But it's "neither can live while the other survives" (yes, i just looked it up, lol). I suppose it could have a more cryptic meaning, like neither can have their own life while the other is a part of them, while they are chasing each other- but then we're possibly heading into the realms of loony land,
But if it's true, what would that mean for Harry? As "dark" as these books are, i don't think it would be self-sacrifice in this wayMaybe for a friend, but to think that a bit of Voldemort is inside him
This theory does imply that Voldy can't live while Harry survives, but not the other way around.Unless the events of Book 4 changed things-In "The Parting of the Ways"- "For an instant, Harry thought he saw a gleam of triumph in Dumbledore's eyes..."A gleam that has never been explained.Maybe Dumbledore sought to turn the prophecy on its head- we know it's not concrete, it's our choices that matter. Maybe that night, Voldemort put a bit of Harry into himself, so they are linked to each other as mortal enemies. What a twist.
I think No. 6 is probably the Godric Gryffindor/ possibly Ravenclaw item.. No! it's the Snake, nagini.
Of course, sorry, silly question
Happy Day!
Tavaron da Quirm - Arts Editor Posted Aug 11, 2005
ok, here we go
tell it everyone you want, but tell me thei views on the subject in return
Yes, I don't really get round the prophecy either. But I think could be fitting anyhow, whether he's the Horcrux or not.
Harry can't live because Vol whould kill him and Vol can't live because Harry would kill him... it's a circle.
I think I'll have to reread everything.
Happy Day!
Vamster Posted Aug 11, 2005

Afternoon!Almost good evening
Yes, may just do that...
Need someone to explain Cases to me in a very slow, patronising manner I'm using www.languagesonline.org.uk and a few of the exercises go, "think about cases!" And so I get everythin wrong, lol. It's just learning though really...
Happy Day!
Tavaron da Quirm - Arts Editor Posted Aug 12, 2005
I started learning today too. I did only 10 pages of... "learning"...
I've written a rather good explaination of cases in the beginners thread at the Department. I'll search for it and then give you the link to the page with the post. That's just a start of course, but let's try how much use it is.
I'll go and search for it
Happy Day!
Vamster Posted Aug 12, 2005
That'd be great, thank-you I spent a lot of time doing German revision today, on the internet, but I didn't get too distracted
10 pages seems a lot to me! i really hate revision, it's so boring- I mean, you've done it once already
Happy Day!
Tavaron da Quirm - Arts Editor Posted Aug 12, 2005
no, I haven't done it yet, I didn't visit the lectures, they were too boring and I needed the time for my homework
Happy Day!
Tavaron da Quirm - Arts Editor Posted Aug 12, 2005
not really, the subject is one of the most boring ones I think
right now I'm searching for my post
and I got the name of a new Austrian researcher (female (at least thats what the name says)) from a ACE, we'll see. I shall give her a homely feeling or some kind of that.
Key: Complain about this post
