I've appealed for more info, just in case any1's still monitoring it, and I'll do a proper search when I can justify the time- i should be doin my French now, lol. Yes, I saw that too, that the conversations are rather old, but I just couldn't find anything else. Another possibility whould be to start a thread in ASK, there will certainly be Pratchett fans around. I like his books too, but I fear that I've read not enough of them to really be able to talk about Pratchett. I'm rather specialised on Lord of the Rings, or Tolkien in the whole and a bit Harry Potter.smiley - wizard

So, then have a nice French learning. I'm happy that that's over for me. But my exams will start in a few weeks toosmiley - erm.

Nah, anyone should be able to join in. Even 1 book would be enough! No-one can claim to know everything, therefore we can all claim to know something, so we can all join in.smiley - biggrinAnd eat smiley - hotdog

Harry? I'm quite an obssessive fan, lol. Actually, I've re-read them too many times, so now I know what's gonna happen next and it's not as exciting, but I stil love it. I have 3 questions for you: Favourite book, fav character and do you like the films?

you should go draw that house!smiley - biggrin

Favourite book: Lord of the Rings + several connected stories like the Silmarillion

favourite character: hard to say, maybe Gandalf, maybe Sam, but I also like Aragorn...

film: wonderful, usually I don't like the films made on books, but that one was great; some things still were not so good, but in the whole: great

What about you?

Or do you mean only in Harry Potter?
Favourite book: I think the last one, but I anso like the 3rd

fav character: I think Siriussmiley - wah

films: not that good, although the 3rd was ok

Thanks, i hope this works. I'm just messin about with it really, so i picked the quote u liked from Kissing Frogs, lol, it should baffle some pplesmiley - biggrinsmiley - laugh.

You're a real fanatic aren't you?!smiley - smileyyou know i said one of my m8s wanted to learn Elfish (not elvish, or is it the other way round?)? Well, i bought her a quiz book- wish i had it now, I could test u, lol.

I did mean Harrysmiley - smiley. I liked Sirius too, and book 3. Something dramatically changed in her writing style after Chamber, i don't know if you can tell from the translations, but there's definately a difference for the better. I like GOF most because I found the characters easier to identify with, particularly Hermione smiley - book(though from the 5th one, I'm not so sure about her), plus i found the last few chapters realy scary, lol.

AS for the films, the less said the better. They should have waited until the whole series had been written, the whole thing died down a bit and until they could find a single devoted director, like Peter Jackson for LOTR. Even then, I'm not sure if it would be possible

I write too much lol. Right, French.

Great, simply great!!!smiley - laughsmiley - laughsmiley - oksmiley - laugh

Yes, I'm a real fanatic. I blame my mum, she read LOTR when she was pregnant...
She certainly wanted to learn elvish, I've got a dictionary, but non of the ones which invent own words. It's only got words Tolkien really wrote somewhere.smiley - biggrin

Yes, I realised that there was a change in style. You don't really think I can wait for the translation? I read 1,2, and 5 in English, but I have the German version too.
Yes, the last chapters were scary, but that's what I like.
For the films is also bad, that they now have to find new actors, in my opinion they are already too old for the film they're making now.

I don't think their age is so much of a problem as their acting, lol. I can't stand Daniel Radcliffe. My other pet hate is that the script-writers and directors don't think about the characters, like when Ron said, "Bloody brilliant!" a dozen times in Philosopher's, when he's from a poor family, with loads of brothers, wouldn't dream of saying that in a million years. Also, Hermione in No.3, when she said, "is that what my hair looks like from the back?" I think she's the most badly represented character, but then again, she's my fav, so maybe I'm biased, lolsmiley - wizard

Do you have the appendix to LOTR? We have the books, though ashamedly, I've only gotten half way through,. The appendix has quite a bit in about the languages, I think with most of the letters, the pronunciation and writing tips. I haven't examined it closely though, will need to find a bit more time on my hands for that lol

True!
I haven't realised the one with Ron, but I too was annoyed about the thing with Hermione. She'd naver say something like that. She also doesn't look like Hermione in my opinion. And their Harry is far too... how shall I say it in English... it's eg the thing with his hair. In the book it always looks like just anything on his head, but in the film it's always right. And then his clothes in the beginning. Wasn't there something about him wearing the old t-shirts of Dudley? Where are they?

The appendix is included in my LOTR book, but I have a special dictionary. There are the letters of the appendix in it and then single words in both elvish languages (sindarin and quenia).
The first page says: Eldarin parmaquettaron Quenia ar Sindarin
Elvish dictionary Quenia and Sindarin

So if you need any translation I can try to find it, but there are many things missing.

I don't quite get the thing with Harry's hair. Do you mean they make it perfect for the part, when really, Dan should just get up in the morning and go film? lol That's a good point about his clothes, they're always the right size!

This is why I've considered not going to see Goblet of Fire. But then i actually like moaning about DR, lol, even though I'd rather have a decent film. Plus there are a few good parts, like Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid, Emma Thompson as Trelawny and, hopefully Miranda Richardson as Rita Skeeter.
Speaking of Sirius, I didn't think he was very good- the real Mr. Black is sooo much more handsome and rugged than that, lol. You know, one of my best friend old me who dies in the 5th book before I'd finished it, I was devastated, lol. However, I was o scared when it seemed Ron had died in Book 5smiley - biggrin, it really got to me.smiley - wahsmiley - laugh

How about My name is... Then i can tell her (if she doesn't know already)Or maybe, I am an Elf. Actually, let's be honest, she'd find I'm Legolas's wife much more appealing, lolsmiley - winkeyesmiley - biggrin

That's exactely what I mean: he should get up in the morning and make the film. That's what I think Harry looks like.

Hagrid is good, but in the whole I think they could have found better actors. In LOTR nearly everybody looks like he is described in the book, I don't have this feeling in HP.
smiley - biggrin Yes, Sirius is certainly more handsome.

I'll write you the translations later, sorry just can't find it right now.

Well, this is it- they are good actors in everything else, just not Harry Potter! Like Timothy Spall as Peter Pettigrew. Have you seen Auf Wiedersehen, Pet? Well, he plays this naive man from Birmingham, and it's so funny. Yet he can't play Wormtail. I think it's because they don't take it seriously enough, they're in it because their kids want them to be.
How bout the Weasley twins? I don't think they fit either. Always finishing each other sentences, but not the instinctive way Fred and George do for laughs, they do it as if they planned it. E.g. in stead of stuff like:" Why does mum always write F and G on our jumpers?" "Yeah, we know we're called Gred and Forge." They say, "harry, this is a-""-secret we've been keeping, it's called-""-the Marauder's Map". or something, you get the gist.smiley - biggrin

I agree about LOTR. I wtached the first film then read some of the books, and the characters fitted perfectly. I think a lot of the book are describing the journey and the battles, so Jackson was able to cut some stuff out and focus on the characters a bit more, so he got them right.

Exactely, they just don't fit for the film.

The good thing about LOTR is, that Peter Jackson is a fan. That really makes it different. He isn't just a guy to whom a big company said "hey, we decided we could make a nice lot of money by making a film of that... how was it called Bob?... right, The Lord of the Rings. Do you want to make it?"smiley - cool

No, the Weasley twins don't fit eighter, they are much funnier in the books.
And then there are all the small things they left out. They quite managed to get them in in LOTR, just a few hints for fans, things some people haven't seen by watching the film. There is so much more about Harry Potter. It really makes you hungry to read about the breakfast in the great hall and such things. I miss all that in the film.

i completely agreesmiley - smiley
By the way, I've noticed you keep writing "eighter" instead of "either"smiley - ok (that makes a change, lol)

They've got no chance with Goblet. It's far too big. As for directors, Chris Columbs was a waste of time, he thought it was just for kids- I mean, i went to the loo when Voldemort appeared. Oh yeah, Voldemort, aka, Ralph Fiennes, Mr Suave from Maid in Manhattan is the image I cannot get out of my head!smiley - laugh They'll never in a million years achieve Flesh, Blood and Bones the way JK does. Or, for that matter, despite the hype, the search for girls before the Yule ball, which is one of the funniest chapters she's ever written- "Wannagoballwimme?"smiley - biggrin Speaking of Hermione, they won't get the surprise of a "pretty girl Harry didn't know", because I think particularly in chamber, she was made to look pretty anyway, if you see what I mean.smiley - ermsmiley - smiley Stop me if I'm boring you, lol

I wish Peter Jackson'd do a remake years down the line. Is it true he's going to film the Hobbit? Now, i've read that one.smiley - biggrin

Thanks for the thing with either, I haven't realized that yet.smiley - ok

No, they won't get it right. They will play quidditch half of the film and then have no time for what's actually going on. Nothing against Quidditch, but it was a bit too much in the beginning of the 4th book in my opinion. And film people like such things. There they can make a lot of special effects with flying and such things. The whole end will certainly be a mess with not one correct thing.
Yes, that's what I mean. Hermione is too pretty, too girlish clothes, especially the stuff in the 3rd. They obviousely can't stand a girl which isn't pretty... here we go again, girls always have to be pretty.

I'm not sure whether he does th Hobbit or not. He seems not to be in a hurry. That's good. Now that he is famous he doesn't start just making anything as fast as he can. He just makes what he likes, right now it's King Kong. That's the right position. Not that I personally need a remake of King Kong, but it's his style to make such films.
