Tell me how this pub was, I only know pictures of it.
Not Lewis Carrol, C.S. Lewis.
On Friday there is free in the café, because my exams will finally be over then.

I'm afraid we didn't see much of The Eagle and Child, we didn't have time. (i get so congused with those two...lol)
Lewis Carroll (the guy who wrote Alice in Wonderland, right?) has his own portrait and window and Christ Church...in the Hall... where HP was filmed. Now, i know we don't like the films, but the hall was impressive, the stairways even more so.
Two things that might interest you on the trail... one was that I've seen the first piece of Rennaissance architecture in Oxford, i think it was a doorway in Merton College, but I'm not sure.
The second is better.. sit down, relax, take off your shoes... and don't drop your:
An original copy of the Two Towers, hand-written by J.R.R.Tolkein, in the Bodelian library My LOTR obssessive friend found it and took a photo- I din't see the actual book, but still, it's pretty *understatement of the year alert*
Mum's just told me he went to Merton, which was the best college we saw..a little summerhouse with a music room...a chaplain who gives you ... beautiful accomodation. Ok, so it seems a tiny weensy bit difficult to get into, but we can dream, lol
We found a bookshop in the centre that was open til 11! A wonderful novelty, but very difficult to get me out of it, lol. I bought The Science of Discworld, Hans Christian Anderson's Fairytales and ...Tom Holt, Falling Sideways! i haven't got time to read them yet...other things are coming up , but Falling Sideways appears to be all about "a small gang of devious frogs. Frogs that rule the universe."
Right, going to try and catch up now!

*spits across the desk because of shock*
An original copy of the two towers
... and you have missed it... and me even more so
I had a bookshop tour today, I went to 3 bookshops, but I didn't buy anything, somehow they didn't have anything more interesting than the things I've got at home.
Frogs rule the universe, you've got to tell me more when you've read it.

I'll probably read it on holiday, after the Half-blood prince, so it could be...ooo... August before you get a proper review from me- you'll have to remind me
I tried to find The Deeper Meaning of Liff and Last Chance to See, but to no avail.
I have to start reading French literature this holiday if I'm gonna have a chance of getting in, so mum frowns on me buying so many books, when I have so many already; but the summer hols are the only chance I really get to just sit and read for hours- the rest of the year I'm either too tired, or have no time, or am sick of reading reference books as it is.
Am gonna start OOTP again today! But first have to tidy up and do work...
Always something to be done...
OOOoo, P.s. i came second in a music thing y'day- am v. proud of self, as was nackered at the time, plus it was a duet and my partner abandoned me

what did you sing?
It will be hard for me to shut up and don't spoil anything of HP, because I think I'll have it read earlyer than you.
You couldn't get them? I haven't read Last Chance to see either. I want to, but somehow as long as I haven't read it I still have something left to look forward to.
French literature? You like them or is it just because you have to?

I didn't, i played flute!♪ to be fair, the others were basically just out of the beginner's category, with a couple of really good ones thrown in. The saxophonist beat me but she deserved it for all the twiddly bits, lol
!!! Please don't give me spoilers- right now i know you wouldn't, because you wouldn't want it to happen to you, but last year my best friend was in exactly the same position as me. My sis, who's the fastesrt reader in the history of man, told a friend about Sirius. this got passed round set two until it reached the ears of those-who-have-no-discretion, who told my best friend. She, gutted, decided that I had to know too! I almost fell out with her... but I'm slightly more tolerant than that
I suppose that's one way of looking at it, but there's so much good comedy sci-fantasy out there, and then there's all other books, that I'd rather read it while I'm still so enthused by his work.
..er... mainly because I have to. I don't normally read heavy lit, so goodness knows what I'll be like with this, but I have to try, else I'll stand absolutely no chance. And No chance is better than absolutly no chance, so...

We're opening a music-thing at the pond, you can play the flute!
I won't spoil anything, but I have to tell you wether I liked it or not, nothing more. I'll just say "I was good", not more. I don't like spoilers either, but as I'm always the first one to read HP I don't have any problems with that.
I've finally finished my book and so can now start with TP.
Good luck with the French stuff... I'd hate to do it

I would be honoured!
I love the TP piccy you've got! Perhaps a few links? although i can't think of many. Maybe a publisher, or that cmotdibbler site? I think Paul Kidby the illustrator has a good one two. Perhaps one to MAazon so people can buy them- or is that an illegal move on the bbc?
Yes, keep it nice and short. Any word out of the ordinary and I shall excomunicate you for at least...oo.. two weeks? while I'm in Italy?lol i've bought an Italian mini dictionary, just in case I feel like doing something with it, signposts and so on. Yoghurt pots are always good to learn from, lol.
ooo dear. Have started thinkning seriously about uni, especially in my little Oxford fantasy in my head How long did it take you to decide about architecture and Vienna?
Yes, I'm not sure if it's a good idea really... perhaps I should read them in translation Maybe not

The pavillon is growing in our minds already. Looks really nice.
We've already got a new member in the TP club
If I see a good page I'll add a link.
Yoghurt pots? I always read the things on the bottles of vine my parents buy.
I at first went to a technical school after I finished my school, because I was scared of uni. But then this school was so awful, that I couldn't stand it and so left after a year. At first I then tried to get to an arts uni to learn restaurations, but they didn't take me, so I did architecture. But it wasn't as random as it may seem now. My granny was an architect and I drew my first "plans" at the age of 6 or so, and this stupid school was for building engineering, so I was in it before. I always drew houses, somehow I think it had to come like that, I'm only happy that they didn't take me on the arts uni.
Vienna was an easy decision: it's the closest uni to where I live, that's all, nothing else. All uni decisions in Austria are made like this I think.

Good news spreads fast
hee... you just conformed to the German stereotype in writing (or was it intentional?) by saying "vine" instead of "wine"
Oh, yes. Definately yoghurt pots. Some of my first french words were fruits and flavours..although ice creams helped too
Well this is it. i reckon I'll do languages and drift into teaching, like my parents, my auntie and my uncle! It's like what you were meant to do all along, even if you don't realise it at the time. We'll see. i'm going down to Cmabridge this week. I know what I want: a university in Oxford, with the options of the MML (modern and Medieval languages) tripos from Cambridge and the entrance requirements of Man Met (somewhere my dad is constantly mocking)!
Wish it was that easy here. It's a consideration, but most people want to get to know a different region and move away from the comfort zone of their parents- i want to do that, to a certain extent, just to see how I'd get on alone.

I had a 50% chance to write it correctly and I was just too lazy to look it up in the dictionary. Appaerently I was unlucky.
Languages, a very interesting thing. One of my friends studies English for a year, but she gave it up because "these people are mad, they can be happy about nice words in a way which has to be mad"
Which languages exactely do you want to study?
Uuh, Oxford, always reminds me of Tolkien.
My friend wants to do a course in English next to architecture next semester. Just for fun, not seriouse, I think about doing it with her, it's certainly very interesting. The only question is: do I really have time for it?

Vamster Posted Jul 5, 2005
never mind, your error made my day!
French definately, and German if possible, but it's so difficult to get in for German without A-level. Now, if I had wanted to study ancient Greek, or Czech or any such useful languages, it would be another matter...
Did i say I went to the college where he spent many of his years? Merton. try the website http://www.ox.ac.uk, then go to undergraduate admissions, then colleges, then the Merton website, then fellows. It's got a mini-biography (if you can get through all that, lol)
Depends how hard it is! I think you'd be fine with it, whatever the level- if you learn any more, you'll put me to shame at my own language!
right, off to bed then off to Cambridge. My friend wants me to take OOTP with me.. but it's a tad too large to carry round...

Sounds good, but we don't have many rooms with windows, you know... because of all the rock around it...
I'm not sure when I'll get the new HP. My uncle will return on Saturday, I only hope he's made arrangements to get the book
That's why I didn't want that he buys it, I knew it whould make problems... well, we'll see, maybe I'm wrong.
Happy Potter Day!

Happy Potter Day!
I don't have it yet and it makes me to see all the news reports about it. Tomorrow I'll visit my uncle, we'll see whether he's got it.
Could you do something for me please? Open a new thread in the frog page with the subject "Badge" or something like that and then simply post the code for our badge in it.
Thanks.
Happy Potter Day!
Vamster Posted Aug 2, 2005
I'll do the badge thing ASAP.
Yes, I just came on here to talk to you about it! I think i read it a bit fast, it only started processing this week, lol E.g. Why did Draco Malfoy go running to Moaning Myrtle? And i was gutted that we didn't see more of Aberforth, i was really looking forward to that, lol.
Oh, and I want a Pygmy Puff!!!
Holidays were great thanks. I read Science of Discworld and Falling Sideways (Tom Holt)amonst other things. Venice was lovely. i bought a mask after much deliberation- a little jester. i loved all the street entertainment, the art shops complete with artists (), the piano playing in St.Mark's Square, and going over the Bridge of Sighs.
Is good to be back though! the campsite had an internet corner thing, but it was always in use and the queues were hours long, so we didn't bother.
Happy Potter Day!
Tavaron da Quirm - Arts Editor Posted Aug 2, 2005
I've found the badge already, but thanks
well, Draco doesn't know what to do anymore, he hates them all, but he's not yet the person to killa anyone, he's scared, but doesn't want the Death Eaters to kill his mother or himself, that's why he cries, Myrtle just found him, he didn't go to her originally, she heard him and came.
I think the whole end was planned by Snape and Dumbledore, D knew what was going on I think, he must have.
Nice to hear that you liked Venice, I really enjoied it there.
I read a couple of TP-books: Light Fantastic, Sourcery, Eric, Men At Arms
Key: Complain about this post
