Diagnosed with Depression
Tumsup Posted Jan 12, 2008
I have a friend who gets very sad in the dim winter days. When she asked me to buy a new light for her kitchen I had an idea. Instead of getting a replacement lamp as she asked, I got a string of construction type lights and filled them with full spectrum halogen bulbs. When she got home from work and flipped the switch, instead of the old sixty watt overhead light, there were five hundred watts in five little suns overhead.
I imagine that her neighbours think she's growing pot or something but it was worth it to see her smile.

I'm an average person!
Depression risk 'highest in 40s'
Life may begin at 40, but research suggests that 44 is the age at which we are most vulnerable to depression.
Professor Oswald said for the average person, the dip in mental health and happiness comes on slowly, not suddenly in a single year.

And I'm turning 44 this year, so I'm spot on, right?

There's no average person. And you are unique. So is your depression.
OTOH, if you want to think so - if 44 is the peak then after that things can get only better. So there's hope in the hell.
For me it's bad news, of course. I'll be only 40.

Hmm. I was first medicated for depression at 24. Been on and off for years.
And will turn 40 in a few months.
before I steal Titanias thread.
