Ha - just got myself a self esteem boost by getting an absolutely brilliant idea on how to, easily and quickly, get certain specific information out of our financial whadda-ya-call-it - system? program?smiley - boing

And yes, it is indeed brilliant, even if I say it myself. Easily copied and pasted into Excel, fast, doesn't use up much of the resources or processes.

And still, I was the *only* one to even think about this approach - to gather the information from balance sheets instead of the accounts recievable. My boss has even been in contact with the company who made the program to get them to build us a whole new report... which won't be needed now!smiley - biggrin

Too bad I only get this brilliant every three years or so...smiley - silly

Life on h2g2 is very public, and everyone signing up as a researcher should be aware of it - by posting here, you make it possible for absolutely anyone, signed up or not, to read what you have written.

The thing that keeps this thing from going all haywire is Netiquette. OK, this entry is quite lengthy but still worth reading, I think:

Believe it or not, but I actually had another brilliant idea today!smiley - biggrin

The previous brilliant idea made it possible for you to find out how many invoices a specific hotel had issued during a specific period, whether it be one day, one week, one month or one year.

The brilliant idea this time means you can find out how many invoices *all* our hotels sent out during one month. What's even better, you can sort it by hotel, by customer, or by amount.

Even better, you can even sort out the invoices concerning credit card transactions, which gives a more accurate info on how many invoices that were actually sent out that month.

I asked my boss if I could have the rest of September off, now that I have had the 'brilliant idea of the month' but, for some reason, she said no.smiley - tongueout

It even impressed one of the financial consultant from our new owners that is here to map our routines - she's especially interested in statistics like this!smiley - boing

I hope you're copywriting these ideas in case some software developer shows up with them later. You can shake him down for a few coins.

Even if you don't get the rest of the month off, you should really celebrate! Treat yourself to something nice, perhaps a wurre at Gatukäket!

I'm thinking that the fact that my brain obviously is back in business again might be a sign that things are improving, even if I'm still having mood swings. Let's hope so.

I did it again!smiley - tongueout Solved a serious problem at work!smiley - biggrin

Nothing extraordinary really - it's just that I was the only one to realize that we can use 7 digit customer numbers in the accounts receivable - we have been rapidly running out of 6 digit ones. Everyone else thought we were limited to those 6 digits...

See, that's what I usually do - being the only one to see really simple solutions to seemingly complicated problems. I'm constantly amazed by the fact that nobody - and I mean nobody, regardless of education/experience/position - else sees it.

It isn't just your colleagues, Ti. i've noticed that lots of people have a really hard time seeing obvious solutions to things. They try to make things much more complicated than they need to be.

I guess it's true what Victor Hugo said:

'Common sense is in spite of, not the result of, education.'smiley - winkeye

Found anothe quote I like, by Josh Billings:

'Common sense is the knack of seeing things as they are, and doing things as they ought to be done.'

Or, in the words of Emerson:

'Common sense is genius dressed in its working clothes.' smiley - biggrin

And already Voltaire realized that:

'Common sense is not so common.'

The quotes are inspiring.

One of my co-workers in the radio could have used some of those. He sometimes gets 'fits' like epilectics - especially when he is stressed. He had one on Friday when he tried to set up my computer to network with the radio's different pc's.

And today he had to fix my phoneline, attacking the problems with much moaning, sweating and talking to himself - getting himself worked up - and proposing many intricate solutions. I was expecting another fit...and then suddenly the solution came to him smiley - puff.

All my co-workers are employed in supported jobs - because of health problems and handicaps.

Ouch - sounds as if that specific colleague of yours needs a stress handling course... can't be good for his blood pressure among other things.

Despite medication, I felt a bit low towards the end of December and am still a bit low - and found that it might be because the month of December was extremely low on sunshine - lower than average based on December months 1961-1999.

Guess how many sun hours Stockholm had in December - 10? 5? 2?

No, not even 1 - we had a total of 25 minutes! 25 minutes - good grief... and I bet I spent some of those minutes at work, indoors, unable to enjoy it.

Surprisingly, Borlänge had almost twice as much sunshine than usual - a whole 62 hours! Borlänge is situated north of Stockholm and so should have had less daylight hours - but those few daylight hours were obviously filled with sunshine smiley - envy

*wonders what the job situation looks like in Borlänge*

I don't want to know how Lund has had it, but better than 25 minutes I suspect. However, as I work with my back to the window, I miss out anyway. Time to rearrange the furniture again.

Nice chat the other nigth, btw! smiley - hug
