The only *happy* reason I can think of is that the couple ended up eloping a few months early, but that's not very likelysmiley - erm

My sister and my daughter are intrigued. I will have to keep my ears open for the reason, and I hope it's as you say, Amy.

I attended a funeral (in a personal capacity) yesterday. There was an RAF flypast... http://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news/grimsby-news/raf-transporter-roared-across-skies-1522257 unfortunately I can't get the plane photo to display so I have tried to save the image on my computer, then I remembered I can't upload photos heresmiley - erm and I've lost all my photo sharing websites. People who are friends on Facebook can see it. Jimmy was only 29, he had a brain tumour which he battled for 2 years.smiley - rose He had been a nurse in the RAF. The first service was at the biggest and grandest church in Grimsby - it used to be St James Church but it's now Grimsby Minster. http://grimsbyminster.com/ I could spend hours in there just looking at the fabulous stained glass. Here is one of them which I took a photo of and applied to my entry: A82826139. Jimmy was my nephew Liam's best friend and best man at his wedding 3 years ago. As I was walking to the Minster across the flagstones I was dive-bombed by a white butterfly. smiley - angel

The church funeral was interesting from my professional perspective as it's the first one I've been to since I've been learning my Verger's job. I was sat with my sister, her daughter between us and my ex-brother-in-law (Liam's dad) the other side of me. In front of us were other mourners that I thought were a little too close to the front... right on the funeral start time the Verger (presumably) appeared and began to shuffle the people in front of us around like human dominoes smiley - sadface and when I saw the Vicar walk in - horrors, his sash at the back of his neck wasn't straight, the gold cross was almost on his left shoulder. There was another service at the crematorium but I didn't go to that so I actually missed the flypast - although I did hear it in Cleethorpes.

I wonder what the other mourners thought of the oops! moments I noticed - I'm glad I wasn't the Verger yesterday!smiley - run

RIP Jimmysmiley - rose

Busy time coming up - funerals on Friday 18th and Monday 21st. Wedding rehearsals on Wednesday 23rd and Friday 25th, then two weddings on 2nd June.

Friday's funeral involves a new (to me) undertakers and the lack of our church organist is causing some reorganisation! I rang the phone number for the funeral directors and luckily found myself talking to a delightful young lady whom I got on with like a house on fire (smiley - groan, yes, I am picking up the awful puns Prof) I explained the need for testing the cd if there was going to be one and could they possibly deliver the service sheets to the office at least the day before the funeral and if they had a cd player could they please bring onesmiley - puffand also it would be appreciated if a member of their staff could actually stay during the service to play the music as I really need to be concentrating on making sure the service goes as smoothly as possible. She was most agreeable and stated she didn't think there would be a problem but if there was, the manager would get back to me. I said how nice it was to talk to her and thanked her profusely for helping me as I was new to the job and she said it was a pleasure. I said thank you very much and she wished me all the best with my new vocation. I said I hadn't planned any holidays yet and she laughed out loud (I hope she wasn't sipping tea)smiley - blush

RIP Phyllissmiley - rose

I am pleased to report that with a church full of mourners, everything ran smoothly, except for one thing, when the vicar invited the immediate family forward to light the tealight candles he presented them with a noisy and not-very-good gas clicker which took several attempts by each person (smiley - grr) to light their candle. There were tapers, and I had even lit one tealight in advance so the taper could be lit from that. smiley - shrug

So, wasn't mesmiley - run
