it has its advantages tho - getting half fare on public transport being one....although apparently you're meant to if you're in full-time education....

I have no idea about getting money off transport fares. It would be a good idea if I found out, mind, I'm probably missing out on all kinds of reductions I could get as I'm a student

Well, in my day, you just flashed your student's card. Try it wherever you are. Cinema, museums, theatre, swimming pool, any form of transport. Ask if you get a reduction for it. It should work. Might not work in the pub though.
