2am There's an owl keeping me awake now - hooting like mad outside my bedroom window. It's a pity you can't see them flying, just hearing them is quite spooky. But I love it really, I just need to get back to sleep.

Snowmageddon is further south. We got hardly any snow in Boston. Washington DC h=got clobbered--some will see it as divine retribution.

I'm pleased for you Paul. It must be weird being in that form of a blizzard. It sounds bad, and they are saying it's the 'wrong sort of snow' apparently too wet to be cleared up easily.
Over here the term 'wrong sort of snow on the line' is often an excuse used by the railway companies for not running the trains on time.

It's a Pan European excuse then? I thought it was just British Rail.

when we have heavy snow falls like we have this winter they bring out the oldest trains and fit them with snow ploughs - they are the only ones fit for the job

If you get the wrong sort of snow, you need to put it on catapults and send it back into the sky and demand a refund.

feeling cold again tonight... but didn't feel too bad at all the past two nights... though I was quite a few miles away, and a fair bit nearer the coast...
Mind the drizzle was pretty horrible, and it was misty too a lot of the time
Think it helped that my friends house is probably warmer and better insulated than mine... plus we were doing 'things' to keep warm
Must attempt to make it to the b bakery tommorrow... or maybe make my own bread again (actually that seems a little tempting as it gives an excuess to have the oven on and making heat for a lot of the day )
hmmm.... maybe I hsould get another pack of bacon out of the freezer

whatever the weather here, the train companies say it's the wrong weather falling on the railway tracks causing delays - But! the problem is! the modern trains are just to light, the heavy steam loco's had no problems of grip

That and people not bothering to turn up for work... That doesn't help them send out the trains on time either!

One of the main problems when we get snow and bad weather in the UK, with the trains, is that the drivers just can't get into work....
I've a friend who drives trains (mainly fraight trains), and as he lives quite close to a railway station, he was one of the few at his company who could get into work over the bad weather at Christmas/new year... A lot of the other drivers live further out (its a very rural area anyhows), and so just couldn't get in; all the roads there are never* gritted as there arn't any* main roads as such hardly, so all the little B roads and country lanes being left ungritted and un ploughed meant hardly any of the other drivers could get in... Consequently he earnt a whole bunch of overtime over Christmas, but didnt' get to see his fammily (or me) at any* point over the festive season
My train problems yesterday; bus from Ely to Cambridge, was due to major work underway at Cambridge station; I think its going on for a few months each weekend, when they'll be no trains at all running into, or out of Cambridge station... well if the work needs to be done, it needs to be done... They were doing some work on the points this weekend
We've got snow here again now

Anyhoo.......
It's not a good idea to eat in bed, I nearly set fire to the duvet making pancakes this weekend.....
Those calor stoves are not as stable as I thought.
