I vote for teetotal. You need your food, but water is a perfectly acceptable drink [W C Fields to the contrary], and it has no calories.

I agree, but where's the fun in that? Looks longingly at the chilled wine already waiting on the dinner table.

Ask Louis the 14th. He diverted a river from 40 miles away so that it could provide his palaces with magnificent fountains. Fountains are a lot of fun. You can buy a small fountain and drink the water from it with ice cubes and a splash of lemon or lime. You could even add club soda for extra fizz.

Lanzababy, you can take comfort in the knowledge that there are millions (perhaps billions) of people in the same boat as you, and they have a huge incentive to avoid either crowding each other out of the boat, or making the boat sink. With such a potentially huge market, manufacturers are bound to come up with a or that has minimal calories, but tastes the same as before.

Oh I so hope so Paul. Tonight I ate a good first course ( a baked fish pie with vegetables ) followed by an absence of homemade fruit crumble and fresh double cream. I looked at the pudding so longingly, but the one glass of white wine won me over to its side.
