You *can* and *should* trust people who use false html (or any other markup language or pseudocode or even real code in the course of a conversation.
Geeks are good & trustworthy people.
The only corollary to this is that according to the traditional warning:
"Beware of Geeks bearing gifts"
(oh, no, that's GREEKS isn't it? And it's because of the Trojan War.
I guess the Trojans are still a bit miffed about the old 'wooden horse' trick... Some people just can't take a joke, can they!?)
