Mrs. Lowell Cabot's garden party for the Grandes Dames of Beacon Hill got under way with the unveiling of a replica of the State House built entirely of playing cards. Little did she realize that an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 was about to strike. Not only the replica would be damaged. Parts of the actual State House would be in need of repair.
