Has one of your dreams ever came true?
IctoanAWEWawi Posted Sep 28, 2005
Can't remember having had funny dreams, I've had dreams where I woke up crying though.

Yael Smith Posted Sep 28, 2005
Hmmm, I think that's more common.
Do you have time to look through my entry and my comments, Ictoan?

The nightmare bit sounds odd.
I never have nightmares, never recurring, but quite often I have very, very funny dreams.
That entry by the way, well I'm not quite sure if its quite whats wanted in the edited guide as it is (is that the end of it, or is it only an inytroduction so far?, but I wouldn't be sure, I think we need the opinion of someone more experienced.
I myself thought more of a practical, light-hearted collaborative entry, about peoples different experiences, lucid dreaming, dream diaries, and anything else that hasd or might come up in this thread. Go into the scientific bit, but nobody really understands it anyway, so why go into too much detail?

Thanks, Ictoan.
I don't think it's scientific, and it is only the basic entry, which will surely be disected in Peer Review, but as an ex-Sub Editor and Scout I have seen a lot of entries like this one on the Guide.
Obviously, I was thinking of incorporating researchers opinions, but it does need to be brief enough for the Guide, or it will be axed.
I think that it's informative, not scientific (me? SCIENCE? Ha!), and maybe once more people know how to work with their dreams there'll be more experience sharing for another entry.

Or, we can write two seperate entries, yours which focuses on dream interpretation, and the one based on this thread aboutr dreams in general.

That's true. But after writing the first, my head hurts, so maybe someone else can pick this metaphorical glove up and write this? I will contribute, just not today...

Sorry, when I looked, it was very short, I jsut re-read it in it's current form and it is very good. I keep posting things and discovetring by the time I write it, there have been more posts.
Sorry.
I think we can do two entries on the subject. It is a very good entry.

There is absolutely no rush, let the thread go for a while, and then I might start compiling an entry from comments and doing some research. We can make it a true team effort, and at the same time, link it to your fantastic entry on dream interpretation.

Why, thank you....
I have worked on it for a while today, and since I'm also a bit sick it's drained me. Especially with all that GML.
I actually like the entries that refer to personal experiences, but the rules are that there's no room for them in the official Guide.
But I'd love to co-write an entry. I had a wonderful experience doing that here....

i say the hugs entry while looking at your personal space. Its very nice.
I'm pretty sure that you can provide quotes from researchers and say 'one researcher had this experience' and put in a block quote of what they said, and then give them co-authorship. I've seen entries like it.
But anyway, perhaps we should try and get the thread going about dreams again, not about whos goingto write what entry.
DV.
PS. Hope you get better soon Elly! lol

I think you're right, DV.
And I hope so too, especially 'coz I can't take anything stronger than paracetam*l at the moment.

Hmmm, seems after a bit of trawling through the edited guide, theres already an entry on dreams. Two, in fact, however that happened, A5938248 and A196328 .
But that doesn't matter, it's still an interesting conversation, and I hope it continues.

Talking of those funny dreams, I had an absolutely hilarious one last night. I won't go into detail, but it featured a big party, a busdriver, a spelling competition, Kofi Annan, a plastic surgeon, and a lot of other random things, which surprisingly connected well and was side-splittingly hilarious, once I had a good thought about it.
I really recommend a dream diary to everybody, it's real good fun!

Elly, I meant to say yesterday, that your Guide Entry is really good! DunlopVolley, I like the idea of a collaborative one.
Talking of recurring dreams, are they or are they not unusual? I've had them all my life, but my son and brother tell me they seldom or never (in my brother's case) had them.

Recurring dreams are very common indeed, Della. It's possible that your brother does not remember his, or maybe he just hasn't had any. Mine are so familiar by now, I can more easily relate to them.
It's weird how, probably under the affect of hormones, my dreams in pregnancy are much stranger and very different to those I have when I'm not.
And about funny dreams- I was giggling to myself for a whole day over a dream that's composed a common phrase (like 'piece of cake') at some points.

When I was pregnant, I often had what I've since read are called 'wise baby' dreams, that my baby was born, and although only about 8 months old, he could talk, and did - saying well, what else but wise things? (None of which I can remember now.)
With my second son, I had what I would have thought, had I believed in such things then, was a 'past life' dream, but since, I have thought that if it was such a thing, it may have been his past life, not mine.
I haven't had any past life dreams of my own - well, maybe one. I often dream of people I know - even if I can't see them, or they look completely different - but I know they're them. Come to think of it, I dreamed of a man who (as dream characters often do) told me his name. Three months later, I met him, and his name was different, but by then I'd had the second dream of him, in which he was a handsome and capricious and quite unpleasant man who was a lover, I suppose you'd call it of mine, but in the late 18th or early 19th century. When I met the real man,I summoned my courage and told him about my dream, and it was he who shrugged and said dismissively that it must have been a past life dream.
He turned out to be a bit of a jerk, and the dream warned me of that!

Those dreams, that seem to predict things, I don't think anyone has a 'scientific' or logical explanation for. They just happen. I had past life dreams too, and to be honest, never really touched them. I left them as they were. One thing I did neglect to mention, and am going to do so now, are universal dreams- like falling off tall buildings, flying, walking or speaking naked in public and so on.
