Bob's link is another victim of one of h2g2's itinerant bugs.
The link is correct, but once you click on it some drunken sticks an extra "dna/h2g2/" into the URL. You can either manually delete that from the URL and reload it, or maybe this link will work.

I date from BBC days. When I joined I did feel there were a few cliques around, but plenty of places I could join in.
After single sign on I felt the site became less pleasant, with too many new, transient members of a text speak style.
Now it's all much quieter - a bit too much so. But I hope the site will survive, it's one of the few not all full of over the top LOL, hugs, swearing & holiday snaps...

I think what was wrong with Bob Stafford's link was that he used www.h2g2.com in it. It would have worked if he had used h2g2.com without the www in front of it. Whatever way the site is set up, the two of these are not exactly equivalent, and you're always better using h2g2.com rather than www.h2g2.com.

Some joined in the interim period (i.e. Rupert) - so they would be pre-BBC but not pre-Rupert. I suppose you're right though - it is rather splitting hairs.

I do have Post BBC accounts (though I will not use them) But I can not pretend to be new on every account. "

Gnomon, the problem is that the www is in the URL when one copies it. Most people don't manually enter URLs.
I've made a habit of removing the esses from "https" URLs. Now I'll try to remember to remove the WWWs.
But users shouldn't have to jump through such hoops. And I'm very disappointed that there seems to be absolutely no progress made on such issues in the last year. And I'm also tired of biting my tongue about this lack of progress.

I never have www in the address. I've been going to h2g2.com sinve they introduced it.

I'm using brunel. I think all the ripley skins put the www in there.
I would've gladly moved to Pliny but I prefer the "My Convos" pop up in Brunel and Pliny doesn't offer that and you can only go so far back in your convos in Pliny. I seriously doubt they'll ever get the two systems merged and functional now.

I also doubt it.
I suspect what will happen is that the Ripley engine will suddenly stop working some day, and nobody will be able to fix it. Pliny will continue to operate, but all the mechanism for publishing entries is in Ripley, so no further changes will be made to the Guide.
At that stage, the few remaining authors will pack it in and find somewhere else.

That doesn't happen on my computer. I use alabaster.

I use plain, alabaster and brunel and I always leave out the www.

Baron Grim Posted Jan 19, 2016
I understand that. What I'm seeing is when I click on a link in Brunel, the URL begins with "www.h2g2.com". When someone copies and pastes from the URL bar, that WWW is included. Then when someone clicks on a perfectly good brunel link, h2g2 wedges in an extra "dna/h2g2/". for example with spaces in place of dots so they won't turn into links....
http //www h2g2 com/dna/h2g2/brunel/AddThread?inreplyto=110976016
becomes
http //www h2g2 com/dna/h2g2/dna/h2g2/brunel/AddThread?inreplyto=110976016

It was impossible to join during the interim (Rupert). The site went bust and shut up shop.
I recall it very well, we had to all set up temporary groups around the internet to keep on chatting.
So I stand by my rather penantic point
