I notice that there has been a change made to the Login system.
You can now log in if you use your user ID number (without the initial U) rather than your log-in name.
I've e-mailed the techs, so they may be able to fix it to be the way it is supposed to be, but in the meantime feel free to log in and use the system again.

That sounds promising - I'll try that later on my home pc. (work pc's fine, and I'm not going to risk logging out to test it)

Ah, I found a browser I hadn't used before, and logged in successfully using the number.
Thanks techs!

Thank you Gnomon - that little trick worked for me and I can now post (obviously)
I use Brunel on Firefox and while I could see what was happening I couldn't let anyone know.

I should not have been locked out, as I stay logged in at all times. A few minutes ago, the tech team emailed me that I could get in by using my U number, and it seems to be working for now.
God, how I've missed this place!

You can call me TC Posted Sep 29, 2015
I never lost it on my laptop at home nor on my computer at work, where I am permanently logged in on Ripley. And now I can even see hootoo on my phone again, so, as far as I'm concerned there was practically no hiatus.

It seems our vogons have also infested both facebook and skype the last week or so. With less success than here, perhaps, but still. We are not the only victims. I can say that trying to communicate among the core volunteers about h2g2 over a failing skype was ...interesting.

When I dicovered the user id workaround and tried to tell people on facebook, it went off-line for much of the world.
