What beer are you drinking, and what's it like?

I'm currently enjoying a nice pint of Kelham Island, Easy Rider. 4.5% (i think) and nice light and drinkable.
But what beers are you folks enjoying?

There's an ongoing thread of Gosho's on just this subject.
Plus I'm trying to get Rich to resurrect the Horse & Groom beerfests, but he's too busy having a baby (well, not him...). You probably missed out on the beerfests, Pastey - here was one of the better ones: F8869429?thread=4945075
Currently, due to it being a pound a bottle in Morrisons, I'm drinking Courage Bitter. Not at all offensive at the price: a good session beer.

And here's you who described himself as a 'Bon Vivant' when I suggested the merits of price-based vino some years back.

Ruddles County.
There was a time waaaay back when Sainsburys sold two bitters, a green and a blue labelled one. I am pretty sure that theses were in reality Ruddles County (green) and bitter (blue).
To be honest, this County is a little lacking in malt for my liking and is 4.7%. Wasn't County once a little stronger than that?
I haven't seen Ruddles Bitter for some time. (Of course Ruddles really died some time back before being revived I believe).

Can I join in this thread? If it is hot and I have just had to call into a hostelry away from home, it will be a small glass of San Miguel.
Just this minute it is a 2007 Rioja Valdemillo tempranillo, special offer from the local supermarket. 2.57 euros

Ruddles County used to be my favourite pint in the world. Not had it for ages and dissapointed to hear it's not the same. But then nothing ever is.
Great lost, and mourned, pints.
Theakstons XB
Old Peculier
Burton Ale.
All occasionally still seen, and all a shadow of their former selves. (and yes I have tried Black Sheep. Still doesn't cut it.)

I agree that Old Peculier has lost something. it seems that the rise of the microbreweries has coincided with a slight decline of the major real ale breweries of my university years.

Yes it has lost something. Its high alcohol content. But also at the same time most of its dark, bewitching character. Mass production of a sort has ruined it since they movd the brewery to be able to make it cheaper. Same with Burton Ale.

drt, a few years ago the Theakston family bought the brewery back from ScotCo or whoever they were calling themselves at the time. The made some serious improvements to the beer.
Unfortunately it needs to be on cask really, and looked after by a good cellarman which is even harder to find.
That does remind me though, Gadds brewery are doing Dogbolter to the same recipe as the Firkin chain did, and it tastes just as good.
Old beers I used to like that are now wishy-washy:
Old Speckled Hen
Ruddles County
Morrels (anything)
Strangely enough they're all been bought out by Greene King...

anhaga, I'll have to read that mahoosive backlog when I've got more time!
Looks great though.
I do wonder why h2g2 doesn't have entries on all the breweries, we're ideally set for it. Especially the research part...

The whole section on British Beer is sadly out of date. There's most definitely room in the Guide for much more about this subject, either by fresh Entries, or revising and updating some of the dusty old ones.
Lots of short Entries on individual breweries would be a good start, and might be useful for visitors to the UK and London, even, for the Olympics?

That's a very good idea Lanza, I think I should look into that...
Might need reminding about it occasionally though.
