Depends what I'm throwing... If I was throwing a packet of fags across the room to someone I'd be more likely to throw it like a girl.... But if I was lobbing a brick through the local police station I'd throw that like a boy... The last thing I threw was a cigarette lighter, across the room to someone, and I threw that like a girl

I throw like a boy but have 'cricketers shoulder' even though, in the main, I used to keep wicket. The result is, that if I have to throw something a long way, it has to go side or under-arm (not that I have needed to do THAT very often recently.

If you mean that daft idea about a girl making a lap with her skirt to catch something - I don't think anyone can ever have done that instinctively.

Catching and throwing are skills which are often neglected. They can be really useful. German kids do very little ball sports (none of mine ever played football for more than a term at school, ditto volleyball and basketball) American kids, I've noticed, are really good at catching and throwing.

I throw either way, depending on how far or how accurate I need to throw. Fortunately, the chap in the next office is a goalkeeper in his local team, so I often chuck staplers and sellotape to him, because I can be sure he'll catch it!

Oh yeah I'd forgotten that way girls were meant to catch..

Geoffrey Bouycott frequently says on the radio, if some fielder drops a catch..that his old mum could have caught that with her pinny.

Most girls don't have boobs Taff. And muscles have nothing to do with how the throw happens (might affect how far of course). Not sure about arm linkage, what does that mean?

I think it's sociological. Girls aren't taught properly and socialisation veers them away from good ball throwing skills as well as indoctrinating them with the 'girls throw like girls' thing.

It's all about technique, not testosterone.

Actually, any women I know who have access to horses are rather more well-spoken than that, but that spoils the joke.
I think, to do a proper cricketer's throw, you do have to commit your whole body to it. If you're self-conscious or half-hearted, it ends up looking weak and 'girly'. I think my throwing sometimes suffers from that.
