OMG - have you seen the new Google Doodle?
Mol - on the new tablet Posted Feb 13, 2014
Yes, my son got a special google doodle on his last birthday.
Many happy returns, jwf. It's my dad's birthday today too. He's exactly twice as old as Robbie Williams.

Thanks. I don't feel so 'special' now but it sure is nice to be
remembered by a huge faceless corporation like Google innit.

I'm a bit confused due to the time difference - is it your birthday today or was it yesterday? Either way - many happy returns!
I'm off to see if there's a Valentine's doodle. Probably not because they seem to have been keeping away from that sort of universal thing these days.
There's a choc -creating game on google.de At least I think it's .de It's all rather confusing. It gives a link to go to "google.de in Deutsch"

Birthday is Feb 13.
Today, the 14th I'm getting the same Valentine doodle.
Which, had you not described it as -making
would have left me confused about what all that white
dust was all about. I supposed there's some sort of 'right
way' to combine the three ingredients to make the three
kinds of chocolates but the middle row lacked the same
symbols as the right and left.
Still I thought it was some sort of 'match 3 symbols' game
like a one-armed-bandit slot-machine; love being a gamble,
a game of chance.

As far as I understood you make chocolates and get a link-code at the end which you can send to someone who will then get the (virtual) chocolate. But maybe I'm wrong, I didn't try sending it.

Dot Com has the little candy hearts with a Valentine message printed on them. Each seems to link to a cute little story (I haven't tried them all)
Happy Day

I didn't know what that link was for. I'd love to send hubby some virtual chocolates for Valentine's Day, but he doesn't have a Google+, Facebook or Twitter account.

On dot com, animated tribute to John Steinbeck.
He's such a quintessential American writer, I don't expect this to show up on other domains.

Not even accessible in Canada. Every input of .com
gets rerouted back to .ca
But all hail Steinbeck for his Travels With Charlie
and his Grapes of Wrath
~jwf~
PS: Canada recently had a 'winner' in our national
Doodle 4 Google contest - a 'telescope into the sea'.

It is being hailed as insightful and original but no one
points out the obvious flaw in the logic of using such
a device to view the ocean depths...

You're right. There's no Doodle on .co.uk, which is a shame. Steinbeck may be quintessentially American, but we have heard of him over here and I see no reason why his nationality should be a bar to us having him on a Doodle. We had Maria Callas and Simone de Beauvoir, and they're not exactly British. In fact, I'd say Steinbeck is as well known over here as either of them!

Yeah, I agree. I checked the .co.uk domain before I posted above. While I'm sure he's known worldwide, he's required reading here in the States.
Anyway, for those that want to see it, but can't reach it from their domain (.ca) here's a direct link to the interactive version.

Google .at and .fr (and probably others) have a picture for the 57th birthday of Gaston, a Belgian comic series. It does not seem to appear on .de, which I find strange.

Well why worry about it?Probably most of us actually stick with .com and get to see ALL the special memorial days.

I have no access to .com, it automatically redirects me no matter what I do.

Well try using Chrome and setting the home page to google.co.uk and then click on the feeling lucky tab.

Tavaron, try adding "/ncr" to the URL.
For example; http://www.google.com/ncr
That should force it to ignore the redirect back to .ca.

You're very welcome.
I had read about that google hack somewhere some time ago. It didn't take long to find another reference to it.
