f me. I knew I was old when I started asking my son to do stuff on the computer and anything with wires, but now I don't even know how to work h2g2 so clearly I am ready for the scrapheap!

Not in preferences, so I clicked the alien thing and although I can see 'Mina' scattered about a few times, I can't see my screen name anywhere to change it!

How odd. I just clicked update and it changed!?

Aha, worked it out now. Stupid thing.

I'm so scared of this 'settings' thing I click on one of my hootoo bookmarks when for some reason which I don't understand the system brings me into the settings on signing in. The first time it happened, I lost my name tag. Yesterday, I was lucky and could escape without any tag line cutting.

I don't understand why I was brought into the settings in the first place, mind. I'd not willingly and knowingly go there. I guess I'll advertise the German Spring meet until our hootoo tagline scheme is sorted.

I don't know anything about plain skin. I just wanted to know which bit to change, but because my name didn't show up as it appears on h2g2 it was confusing! I've changed (U290), but when I go into settings, it still appears as plain old 'Mina', which is why I got confused as to which bit to change - the word 'Mina' appears in three different places in BBCid.

Not sure what that's all about!?

I've seen no NEW news about a dedicated h2g2 settings page so...

By going to the 'settings' page in Plain skin you can alter your h2g2 nickname tagline without changing the name that will still appear at any other BBCid site.

Just make sure you keep another window open to an h2g2 page in your preferred skin because once you update on that plain settings page you will be stuck in Plain when you navigate away from it.

Go back to the other open window. You'll have to refresh it to see the updated changes appear there. But from then on your changes should be on any other h2g2 pages you open.

Unfortunately that doesn't work any more. There's no Name field - unless there's another way of doing it ... if there is, please let me know.



I was sooo much easier when it was just through the Preferences

There's nowhere to change a name there.

I didn't want to get around the rules anyway, just wanted to change my name!

It's very easy - just click on 'Settings' at the right hand side of your name (next to the Sign Out)

Enter your password

Next screen gives you your 'Username' and below that the option to change your Optional name.

At the moment it is disallowing certain punctuation - but I can live with that! and you have to be within the character limit

As mentioned, I worked it out eventually - what was throwing me was that my name at the time wasn't showing up, so I didn't know which of the three boxes with 'Mina' in them was the one I should be changing.

Well, as people are now repeating each other for not wanting to read a dozen short posts I'll unsubscribe.

Yeah I just went to Plain Skin, and it no longer lets me change my name. And I can't do it on normal settings cos it won't accept Effers. So I'll stick with this for now.


I had wanted to change it to the ~Flying gay gordons/Effers~
