Have they closed the Plain loophole or am I just doing it wrong?

Just tried to go to preferences in Plain skin and there's no longer the option to change my name

Was there loophole in the Plain skin that allowed you to get around going to settings to change you name using only certain characters etc?

Yes you can! I just changed mine. It disliked the punctuation I was going to use - but hey! It's no big deal smiley - smiley

I'll be the son of a gun, it works!

Is it worrying I consider the 'plain' bypass to be the normal way, and the standard 'settings' option to be the loophole? smiley - cdouble

What is it? I've been here on and off for 7 years and don't recall hearing of it before.

Ah, it was a trick which was useful to get long nicknames after they introduced the BBCId restrictions on length and characters. It involved switching* the skin to Plain and use the preferences menu as usual, where you could change your nickname almost regardless of the new rules.

* or not, if you are using Plain anyway

How annoying.
The other day I wanted to add something to my name, but the new system wouldn't allow me to use the characters I wanted. It would have been nice to have way to bypass the restriction.

Ah, had you known about the PLain bypass before! And before a few days ago when it ceased working.

On the other hand, I think "they" are working on allowing h2g2 to retain its nickname specificity. I don't know if this will concern only length or nature of characters though.
