Effers;England.

What shouting?

What's with all the middle class woosiness about a bit a banter?

Don't you people ever watch East Enders?

Plenty of shouting in the Queen Vic. Mind you that's mostly from the 'caring sharing' females. smiley - weird

I don't. smiley - tongueout

I don't want to be part of a throng like eneryone else, I want to be an individual! smiley - erm like everyone else.

ETB : Dont worry, you might give the odd nudge in the right direction, but give it long enough (usually an extra 10 minutes is about right) and we'll squabble amongst ourselves anyway. smiley - winkeye

I've watched Eastenders as often as I've seen Star Wars. I'm more of a Corrie man.

My perception, though, is that Eastenders is somewhat disposable culture. Corrie, on the other hand, has good writing, good characters, good acting (The exceptions being Dev Allahan and Ken Barlow) and especially *humour*. It also retains some of its camp Northern music hall roots. (originator Tony Warren was gay and out in 1960's Manchester - which must have taken guts).

On R4 recently, someone from ITV was talking about how they still support quality drama. One example he gave was Emmerdale.

Yeah well you're a cut above the common herd, Edsmiley - winkeye

In Corrie, I never really got over the death of Albert Tatlock smiley - erm

I was trying to think of a better word than disposable. I meant 'Not as good' - sort of. Trash TV - but then again that's more disparaging than I meant. So bad it's good kinda thing.

Not the kinda thing you'd get Ian McKellen in, anyway. (although he was unbearably hammy in Corrie)

Ah, Albert Tatlock, with his rum and pep. (Navy rum with peppermint cordial smiley - ill). And note one of my early Nine Billion Names:

'Are those fancies todays? I'll have six, and no eclairs. NO eclairs!'

First words spoken in Corrie, by one Ena Sharples.

And do you remember Minnie Caldwell? Or how about when Ernie Bishop was shot?

It was a sad day for me after Martha had her heart attack, disrupting the Ena, Minnie and Martha triumverate in the Rovers.

Martha, so often forgotten smiley - sadface is the one with the French beret.

No I don't remember Ernie Bishop getting shot, but I do have vague memories of Ena Sharpel's daughter Vera dying from a brain tumour. I did think that she was called Owvera, until someone explained she was saying 'Our Vera'. smiley - erm

In general I would have
thought ITVs best stuff was some of their one
off, or Dramas over a
few days. Morse, Frost
and Doc Martin are good
too.

Yeah I think my favourite, on itv, in recent years, that I can think of, offhand is Prime Suspect...and also early Trial and Retribution. Lynda La Plante at her best...oh and 'Cold Blood. Can't think otherwise. I

kea ~ Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small, unregarded but very well read blue and white website

TVNZ tried to get rid of Coro here, but it caused a national uproar. So they settled on giving us two hours a week, so consequently we are getting further and further behind (it's something like October 2008 on Coronation St here) smiley - erm

I really like Coro, and agree it's very funny. I also like how they reference back to earlier days, with mentions of Albert and Ena etc.

I remember all of them but not much about the actual story lines. The the two things I remember most are the fire that killed Ken Barlow's wife (is that right?), and Elsie Tanner kissing Ken Barraclough (or?) in a phone box and they rolled the credits out over this scandalously (for the 70s) long kiss.
