'Hermione's Punishment' sounds intriguing too.

Would it be very wrong that it brings to my mind Emma Watson, chains and leather?

err yes...

I suppose Hermoine has annoyed some plenty powerful witches in Umbridge and Skeeter. Some sort of comuppance might be due.

On Red-Hen vs Maline, I think Maline has a vastly more interesting writing style and is loads better to read. But I think Red-Hen provides more "on the money" analysis, if you can be bothered to read it.

I think Redhen should maybe be renamed Redherring. Just a thought.

During my reread (I'm almost redone with rereading HBP) I come back to the title... Ok... If Snape is the Half Blood Prince... Who originally had the book?... Was it V's to begin with? Did V create some of the nastier curses in there?

The book dates back to Voldy and Hagrid's school years, predating Snape's 6th year by a few decades. I'm convinced it was originally Voldemort's, then Snape got ahold of it in a similar manner as Harry possibly.

This brings up the possibility that it could be another Horcrux, but I doubt it. It's just not acting like one. Too easy to find, hasn't done anything on its own.

But if it is indeed a relic of V's then it should come in very handy.

I think some of the discussion Harry had with Lupin about the levicorpus curse also goes to what I was saying earlier about Snape wanting Harry to look into the Pensieve in OP. Undoubtedly Snape tested some of the HBP jinxes on the Marauders, especially James and Sirius. Which is possibly where James and Sirius learned them.

Also now that I'm looking back through it, I'm convinced that Snape made the unbreakable vow without knowing what Malfoy's task was. Between Snape's overheard discussions with Malfoy and Dumbledore it seems highly likely that he was getting in over his head and regretting he had agreed to work undercover with the DE's again.

How long will it be till the next book comes out?smiley - ermsmiley - yikessmiley - boing

I am pretty sure it says in "cannon" several times that Snape both knew more curses than most 7th years when he started. And that he made curses up.

I am pretty sure most of the stuff was Snapes, but we shall see.... An interesting theory.

It's not just theory... Lupin suggests that Harry check how old the book is to get an idea of to whom it belonged. He finds out that it is 50 years old.

Oh, I don't doubt that Snape did most of the notes and he put his pseudonym, Half Blood Prince in it. But from the date I feel it must have belonged to Voldemort first. Snape didn't get it new.

Interesting stuff CZ smiley - oksmiley - smiley

My guess is that Eileen Prince (Snape's mum) originally had the book, and that she knew Voldemort in some way (she would certainly be the right age)...

... that doesn't answer who wrote / made up the curses in the book. Maybe it's a mixture of Eileen, Snape and Voldemort. However if it is then it goes against Voldemort's preferred way of working alone without having to "rely" on someone/something else.

It's a good question as to whether Snape knew Draco's task originally, but I imagine he did know, as he was teaching at Hogwarts on Voldemort's orders to spy on Dumbledore, so he would have needed to be told about it, I imagine. But all the same, it helps with whole mystique as to whose side Snape is really on apart from his own... smiley - winkeyesmiley - smiley

On a totally different note, I feel like writing an entry on Pettigrew/Wormtail... I'll post it here if and when that happens.

Yea, as someone posted earlier... What WAS wormtail doing living at Snape's? There's definitely more in store for his character.

Wormtail might actually have something to do with the final book. When Harry saves Wormtail's life in book 3, Dumbledore mentions something about how Wormtail is now in Harry's debt, and made it sound like it was something special.

So I think Wormtail will perhaps save Harry's life in the final book.

hmm...maybe die trying? I doubt that wormtail will be allowed to live at the end of the series, given he was responsible for the Potters' deaths...

Oh... I just remembered a tidbit I noted this time that I didn't notice the last since reading this thread... Mundungus Fletcher was caught with Black Family crested stuff with The Hogs Head proprietor...

We don't actually know that Dung was pawning merchandise, although Albus says as much later. But Aberforth was an original Order member... I wonder just what might have been up with that.

Of course it just occurs to me that Dung may not have known who he was dealing with.

Dumbledore was also probably hiding at the Hog's Head when he was thrwon out by the Ministry...

I reckon Dumbledore was all over the place. Convincing as many people as possible of the return of LV. Also he was probably already searching for Horcuxes.

An interesting editorial, allthough not one I am sure I subscribe to...

BTW, My copy of HBP is away with someone else at the moment but reading this bad boy got me thinking.

Did Harry find out that "killing" someone tears the soul or that "murdering" someone tears the soul?

I think there is a massive ramification to this disticntion, surely not everybody who has ever killed someone ripped their soul? Someone heroically fighting off 3 or 4 death eater to protect their children and killing one in the process doesnt tear their soul.

Can anyone check that please?

The one where he uses Felix Felicious to get the memory from Slughorn, or possibly the chapter after where Dumbledore debriefs him. I think.
