That isn't much to go on, but I suppose the standard places to go from there are:

1) Are there any more details with the error?

2) Does your computer meet the minimum requirements?

3) Have you tried updating your graphics drivers?

Well I would suggest that the forums at TotalWar.com are likely to be a better source of support. They may know, for example, if the program generates a log file with details of what is wrong when it exits.

Very often, when a game doesn't work, the cause is graphics drivers. Because games are very demanding in specific ways, the main processor (CPU) of a computer can't handle the pictures. Instead, you have a specialist graphics card (GPU). The graphics card talks to the computer's operating system using drivers. You can get the most recent of these from the website of the company that makes your graphics card.

Odd. Usually when errors like this happen, you can type the content of the error message into Google, in quotes "Like This".

Unfortunately I can't find anything. smiley - erm
Is that the exact content of the message, word-for-word? Are there any letters, symbols, numbers? Use tinypic.com and upload a screenshot* of your problem.

If we mere Researchers can't help, the best bet is to give the website of the game creators a whirl; see if they have a message forum specifically for stuff like this. smiley - smileysmiley - ok

* To take a screenshot: Press the 'print screen' button usually found above your 'insert' key near the number pad. Then open a graphics program like Paint, and paste in the image by choosing Paste from the Edit menu.

Also, I've checked out the system requirements for the game. They seem pretty average for a modern system these days. Have you played any other video games on your PC that have worked in the past?

If you have it's likely you probably have a decent setup.

Check the requirements at www.vgrequirements.info, the site which Taliesin posted, and compare them to what you see when you click Start, Run, and type dxdiag followed by the return key.

They should match or exceed the requirements to be capable of running.

If you can't work it out, just tell us here what you see when you run the dxdiag tool, and we'll determine whether they're up to scratch or not. smiley - ok

the launcher says this

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /export/home2/aparker/htdocs/M2TWLauncher/cgi-bin/Scripts/Tier1/MySQLDriver.php

and it means nothing to me

Well MySQL is a database normally used with web servers. I have no idea why the launcher would be using one - perhaps it has the configuration settings stored in there.

I have no idea why a video game installer would use MySQL either, but I do have some experience of 'LAMP', and I'd say the origin of the error is that there is a process which needs to access a MySQL server, but it is not running.

You could try abandoning the installer, and starting from scratch, checking any settings and questions are answered carefully, or choose the sensible defaults.

Other than that I'm at a loss. I don't have this game to test and I have no experience of it. You'd be better off e-mailing the support department of the people who make it, or check on the forums of their website if they have one.
