Or simply try again in a few days? Many connections have been timing out due to cold-related internet issues...

Actually I've just had a thought, if the game is a mumorpuger (MMORPG), it may be trying to register your account or unlock an activation key via the game maker's website.

THAT would solve the issue of why in the world should a video game need a PHP/MySQL web application.

Now, to solving the error: I think Malabarista's advice is correct. smiley - smiley Their server may just be down for a while. Try again in a day or so. Give the load time to settle and the webmonkeys time to fix it. It seems to me now that it's more than likely a problem at their end rather then yours.

when i go looking for the updates all i get is the same driver detective thing again

Maybe your computer's telling you to go play outside.

You ought to give it a go, the framerate is much better, though there's a distinct lack of savepoints smiley - doh

If it's trying to access the internet ... could be a port / firewall issue.

I have the game, it's not an MMORPG, it doesn't have online activation as far as I recall.

To get around your MySQL error, you might try running the program directly from it's executable, rather than the launcher. But really this is something you should ask about in the forums at totalwar.com.

Do you know what graphics card you have? If not, you can find out in Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> Display Adapters.

From there, go to the manufacturer's website. They will have a driver section (probably in 'support'), and you can download and install updated drivers from there. This is almost certainly not causing your MySQL error, but you should do it every now and then anyway.
