I remember being really scared when i was a kid and saw the first Nightmare on Elm street but it wasn't the blood and guts it was the sound of Freddies nails as he scraped them along the wall.Seriously creepy.

I was bitterly, bitterly disappointed by The Exorcist. After all the fuss and hype I was expecting something really special. Instead it was dull and badly written tosh, with the additional handicap of music by Mike bl**dy Oldfield.

Give me a Dario Argento movie anyday.

Okay, Star Wars Empire Strikes back.

"I've made arrangements that will keep The Empire out of here forever."

The door slides opn, Chewie screams, Han shoots, Vader deflects the bolts and summons the gun to his hand and invites them to dinner.

The protracted sequence of Quint loosing his limbs then his life to the Shark in Jaws.

When it finally bites down, cracking open his chest and filling his lungs with blood and killing him, I was usually in the other room shaking in terror.

I think the head bobbing out of the boat in Jaws makes people jump, even the first three or four times they watch the film.

I saw an interview with the man who played the little boy in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. He says the thing people always say to him is 'that childcatcher scared the life out of me'.

I can't remember the name of the film (any help would be appreciated), but i remember falling asleep on the sofa one night, and waking in the early hours, half awake half still asleep i glanced at the TV.

There was this guy on top of this woman, obviously doing the business, and i was just about to turn the box off and go to bed, when the womans eyes rolled back her finger nails grew to claws, and her teeth sank into his throat, ripping it open in one bite.

Ok maybe not that scary in the grand scheme of things but in my semi concious state it gave me a hall of a shock.

Really scary, nasty, Japanese (I think) film. 'Suicide circle' scared the crap out of me, can't even specify a bit it's just... wrong!

The T Rex in the original Jurassic Park. Something was nagging me in the back of my mind saying "that thing actually existed" - made it ten times scarier than it should've been.

Or if we include RL, some of the live footage from 9/11. I won't be any more specific.

You can call me TC

Heights. That's what does scare me. Whether it's Luke Skywalker duelling with his Dad over a hole that seems to go right down into infinity, or Tom Cruise at the beginning of MI2 on that rock face. I can't look.

In space it's worse. In 2001 where the other astronaut (is it Frank?) is outside the ship, and HAL just disconnects him. Even when he is connected, being out in space is scary enough. Having nothing under your feet for a long way is scary, having nothing under your feet for light years is brick-s**tting time.

Aliens are too improbable for me - but looking down a long way into oblivion I can relate to. Standing on the table is alomst too much for me!

Even though I know it's only a film.

Have just done a survey - my 16-year-old son just went past. He said he enjoys watching people jump when the girl comes out of the water in "Minority Report" and he found "Signs" pretty disturbing.

As a kid, the frozen dead body in White Fang horrified me. I had to watch half of the movie in my mother's arms.
