You can call me TC

"The Ring" was quite scary. But only the first time. "The Others" was pretty good, too.

Angel Heart I thought was so awful I have not watched a Mickey Rourke film since. Out of protest. The story line was quite good, I suppose, but the film was just over the top.

Alien made me laugh.

Lots of times, films have made me jump. But they're supposed to. They've got the music, the cutting and the unexpectedness all cleverly arranged on their side. Really good ones make you jump the second time around.

Very few films have made me look over my shoulder on the way home from the cinema, wondering if it was really a film ... Now that is what I call really scary. When they are convincing with it. Not far-fetched like Stephen King.

>>Alien made me laugh.<<

Wow. Just goes to show that what one person finds scary another finds hilarious. Alien can still scare me twenty years after I first saw it.
The scen where her head twist round in The Exorcist also does. Scared the crap out of me the first time too.
Last time I mentioned this to someone though they told me they though it was hilarious.
smiley - shrug
The bit where she comes out of the telly in The Ring.

The bit where Sadako comes for Ryuji at the end of "Ring". Possibly the best scene in horror film history - completely f**ked up by the halfwits that made "The Ring"

pffffft

The truth.

I actually totally pupped myself the first time I ever saw 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'. The bit at the end when the nazi's open the ark and all the ghosties pour out and that fellows eyes plop out into his glasses.

To this day, I know no-one else that has been scared by that.

In my defence I was a young child when I first saw it, and even now as an adult, if that film is on and that scene is coming up, I still look away, so technically I have never actually seen it again to confirm wether it really is scary or just pants.

Having now seen both the Japanese Ring and the American The Ring I was hard put to spot any differences at all. As far as I could tell, the US version was exactly the same.
I saw the Japanese version second and found it not a jot scarier than the remake as I had been told I would.

I've just bought Ring 1 and 2, Japanese versions, thinking I would be scared to death. But it's exactly the samesmiley - erm

I thought Ring 2 was a bit boring reallysmiley - erm The scariest part was at the end when Sedako is chasing her up the well...

I'm a real wimp. I can't watch anything psychologically manipulative, or I get too scared to go to sleep.smiley - sadface

So:

The parts of The Sixth Sense I had the nerves to watch.

The parts of The Shining I had the nerves to watch (I nearly had a heart attack when the title 'Tuesday' came up).

The dream in Twin Peaks where Laura Palmer says 'Sometimes my arms bend back' (I had to stop watching soon after as I had the worst nightmare of my life).

The end twist of Primal Fear.

The end twist of Unbreakable.

The first scene of Scream (yes, I stopped there).

Silence of the Lambs - seen most of it (smiley - biggrinsmiley - erm).

When the director's cut of The Exorcist came out, I saw on TV the scene where the girl descends the stairs like an upside-down spider - smiley - yikessmiley - yikessmiley - yikes

When I was little, there was an ostritch in a My Little Pony cartoon that scared the hell out of me.

Remembered a couple more:

When the hobbits hide from the hooded watchamacallit on the road not far from the Shire in The Fellowship of the Ring.

The murder scene of Heavenly Creatures - at least when I was 14.

The security camera footage from Columbine High School in Bowling for Columbine - I really wish I hadn't seen that.smiley - sadface

Blackberry Cat , if one wishes to remain an individual in the midst of the teeming multitudes, one must make oneself grotesque

got to disagree with you about Angelheart TC
first time I watched it was at a friends and when I walked home about 3:00 AM I was very jumpy and looking over my shoulder all the way home
I'm not especially keen on Alan Parker or Mickey Rourke normally but I found this film very scary and still like it now

Angel Heart is a good film, I remember feeling distinctly uneasy once it finished. Prince of Darkness meant I couldn't look in a mirror for months. And as a child the end of Raiders of the Ark gave me nightmares. The scariest moment ever though is when the hand comes out the grave at the end of Carrie.

It had me climbing up the wall.

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic.

When I was small - the cartton of the incredible hulk. it scared me that bruce banner seemed to be in so much pain when he changed. smiley - erm

When I was about thirteen, Terminator 2 when Robert patrick melts *upward* out of the floor and stabs the security guard through the eye.

I still jump at the dessicated pedophile on the bed in Seven - but I *love* that movie. Story-wise, script, screenplay - in the horror category the only other film touching it is Silence of the Lambs (when to a rise of sqeulling violins Lecter sits up in thw ambulence and peels the face of the dead guard off of his own.) I love that moment so much I bought the soundtrack smiley - blush

Sixth sense, I've become desensitised too now, I expect the jumps - but the first time when the thermostat drops and ghost of the dead woman walks past the toilet smiley - ghost or the boy with the gunshot wound.

Ouch. smiley - yuk

Hmm lesse now.. okay I'll go Alien but not Alien 1: AlienS

There is a moment just after Newt has been snatched when Ripley and Hicks run to an elevator press the button, and for one gloriously judged extra beat *nothing happens*, they press the button again the door slides close *just as an alien jumps out of nowhere right into camera.*

The manipulation of your expectations coinciding with the cut is masterful - and it works!

i think i mayhave to see alien now!

i have watched all 3 lector films and enjoyed them though not at all scary.

i think my problem is ive seen too many films!
i was watching halloween movies as a kid.
i saw a film called crows i think it was as a kid where all these crows attach a village. i believe its by a famous horror movie maker and i cant remember who.

when i watch scary movies i expect the jumps so they dont scare me.
i know it is just a film so it doesnt scare me after wards.

i watched a film on itv2 last night called the ghost in the darkness. it was about these 2 lions which were attaching this village for fun and no one seemed to be able to kill them.

it scared my parents. i cant see what is scary myself so my dad has decided im too cynical.

Ring 2 is nothing special, but Ring is a classic! I love the fact that practically nothing happens! It isn't scary in the American 'lots of things happening suddenly to make you jump' way (I hate that - it's lazy film-making, someone shouting "Bang!" can make you jump). I didn't like the US version as they'd turned the faceless Sadako into some "spooky child" cliche, added lots of sloppy "make you jump" moments and hired mediocre actors for the lead roles.

Little Miss- Get well soon Kylie.XXX

Reading this thread makes me feel really brave!!....really, i thought i was the biggest wimp on earth!!...now i know i'm not alone!!
I can't possible list all the the fims that scare me, this page really isn't long enough. Basically, if its a 15 it'll scare the blue poo outta me & i'll have to sleep with the telly on for a week!!smiley - wah If i think there is a scary bit coming on a film i kinda blurr my vision so i don't have to watch it properly!smiley - laugh
The one scene that does stick out in my mind as REALLY scaring me is Regan doing the crab down the stairs in Exorcist the directors cut. smiley - ghost
Ooohhh....& the end bit in Blair witch, the whole of The Ring, Gothika, Dead End, Cabin Fever, Wrong Turn, Robocop, Harry potter & the prisoner of Azkaban(yes really!), Saw. Oh & The Island Of Dr Monro(sp?) really freaked me out the first time i saw it....all those freaky animals & Marlon Brando & his little freaky kids......!
Did anyone ever watch Sewage Baby, before it was banned in the early 90's.......weird. I was only about 13/14 when i watched that. It really wasn't a good decision of my dad's to rent it out for me, sat aaaaalllllllll alone whilst babysitting!! smiley - wahsmiley - wahsmiley - wah

Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

The US version of Ring sucks, just plain out *sucks*. And blows. At the same time.

So, in no particular order;

Bob's first appearance in 'Twin Peaks'.

The Devil Doll Autons from 'Revenge of the Autons'.

Sadako coming for Ryuji in 'Ring'.

Sadako in the corridor in 'Ring 2'.

The final five minutes of 'Blair Witch'.

The Dwarf in 'Don't Look Now'.

G4 performing 'Creep'.

Please note - one of the above is a lie. smiley - winkeye

smiley - shark
