I am one of those people that <>. However, I don't do underwired. I also think of them as big plasters so don't always like wearing them at all.

Optical, I recommend a girly afternoon out somewhere half decent. Utilise the trained staff to sort you out with something nice and see what difference it makes. I hated bras. Now I just hate ones that dont make me feel good smiley - smiley They can make all the difference between me feeling really dowdy and feeling fantastic and shapely and downright gorgeous.

And if you get one that fits well (and the staff will measure you and help pick out ones you might like as well as doing the running around picking them for you!!!) it'll be reasonably comfy too(I dont find my bras uncomfortable at all, though I know a lot of people do).

Just trust their advice and be honest about what you want. If you want a supportive t-shirt bra for a nice shape under work clothes, tell them.

It was a revelation, for me, my first nice, properly fitted bra. I went from a 36C to a 38DD/E (I am actually a DD and a half I think) in a matter of minutes and have never been more comfortable!

Is there a major difference between underwired bras and none underwired bras?

Is it to do with the size of the bazoomas, shape of the woman or just how the woman likes them to 'sit'?

I rarely wear non-underwired bras except my sports bras.

Essentially, if you hav an underwire, it's a tad like foundations. It's a stable bas for the rest of the bra to to build from, this allows, for instance, the cradle of the cup to be made from a lighter material, to be structured for a better shape (i.e. allowing a pleasant shape to be formed rather than jsut strapping everything 'in and tight'), and for different styles. A strapless bra for anything over a B cup will need underires absolutely.

It's all in the engineering. A semi circle of stiff metal can have all sorts of stresses and strains put upon it and it'll hold and support the fabric well.

Sports bras (well, the ones I have) rely on carefully shaped and put together panels to give shape and support. They cannot be dainty, minimal or delicate.

I can only say it's sort of like building a bridge: You can have stone buttresses and short spans or you can build a suspension system with iron bar and tensioned cables allowing a lighter looking build and greater spans for the materials used. Both do the job but in different ways...

The underwired sound painful to me...will keep with padded

Oh no, they should fit around the base of the breast and sit flat against the flesh, so no point should dig in or feel tight or anything. They give a little with you because they are under a bit of tension via the band (the main bit that goes around you) I dont even notice mine, to be honest and I'm a bit of a princess (you know, with the pea under the mattreses). I'd definitely try one before you decide, no-one's forcing you to buy anything and it does liberate you from so much material - especially pleasant in the summer!

And with so many choices of basic shape, you should be able to find an underwired bra that feels great.

(haha, get your Bristols in Bristol... Sorry.)

Wird sort of passion to have, really, I'm not sure if I'm entirely normal, but I want everyone to have a comfy bra! smiley - laugh

Underwired and padded are almost essential if you shall have a comfortable bra. It's actually worth the effort (and price) to go to a lingerie shop and get a bra fitted.

I rather have two more expensive bras that fit than half a dozen cheap ones in wrong size.

smiley - ok Me too!

Thing is, if you use a department store (House of fraser is my 'local') then you get good choice, well trained fitters and the prices aren't ridiculous either. I've never paid more than £25 for a bra... And they often have offers on that you dont even know about till you pay!

I know £25 may seem like a lot for a bra if you're used to something costing half that, but it's worth it for fit, quality of construction and design and therefore comfort.

I refuse to wear two things: Uncomfortable or unflattering underwear and footwear!

Word of caution with underwireds - never put them in the washing machoine (or if you do, put them into a bag or something).

The wires can come lose, and have often been known to work their way into the innards of the washing machine wreaking imaginable havoc. You can usually tell from the awful metallic scraping noise when this has happened.
