Sellafield has a lot to answer for. Get out quick.

Nothing wrong with Sellafield, my Dad works there as does at least one family member from most of Copeland.
I live in the ikle village of Rowrah, it has Birkett Fencing and a karting track, which might help you remember it. Not many people in Cumbria even know where it is!!

All I could say is 'near scotland'. That isn't bad for me though, I was in my twenties before I found out that Liverpool and Manchester are quite close to each other and not, as I had previously thought, on different sides of the country. My grasp of English geography is not that great...

"Why doesn't anybody know where cumbria is??"
I would have thought that this question has an obvious answer.
I live in London and you would have thought that everybody knows where london is, especially the people who live there.
They don't! The number of teenagers who dont even know where the city that they live in is in relation to the rest of the country is ridicuously high. And if people dont know where they live is, then how are they supposed to know about some place up North, miles from the M6, where there is loads of hills, and happens to be the furthest the Romans got before returning to Italy?
Answer: nobody learns names of towns/cities/counties etc in geography at school anymore.
Where is the M6 anyway?

London, isn't it a little village on the Thames?

The M6 starts about 3 miles from my home near the Northants/Leicestershire/Warwickshire border and goes on so far that I've never made it to the end of it (I believe you end up in Scotland some time after passing Cumbria). (Let's hear it for Cartmel Sticky Toffee Puddings!)
Nobody learns proper geography (ie where places are) any more. Even when I did geography 20 years ago, it was all oast-houses and that African disease you get from a snail crawling into your foot. And our text books were quite old, so people have clearly been learnign No Proper Geography for Far Too Long.
I feel a campaign coming on.

Nice place, Cartmel. I once stayed a week in the Scout Hut - very accommodating. Some cracking pubs.

Three of the grandkids go to school in Cartmel, they live in Grange-Over-Sands and I can recommend one pub there, it's got a great pool table too We always mean to try some of the others, but somehow............

When I was a kid I got a set of colouring pencils in a tin for my birthday or Xmas (we was poor but we was honest - well mainly/sometimes!)
They were called 'Cumbrian Artists Pencils' and had a pretty Lake District picture on the front of the tin.
So I looked up where Cumbria was on the map, don't really know much about it, but if it's like my pencil tin I might be moving there soon!
Do Eccles cakes, Kendal mint cake and Lardy cake come from the county?
Are the people nice?

Mol - on the new tablet Posted Nov 18, 2004
Ooh, I had those pencils too, and thus began an obsession with collecting the entire set of 72 colours. And when you go to Cumbria you can visit the pencil factory where they're made, and have your photo taken standing next to a giant pencil.
I don't think lardy cake is exclusively Cumbrian, although genuine Kendal mint cake is, Eccles cakes must come from Eccles which I think is still in Lancashire ... but the scenery does look like the pencil tin (only not when I try to draw it).
