I think "World News Daily Report" may not be "News You Can Trust" after all.

Back in November someone produced a 'Sergent Pepper cover' tribute to those who died in 2016, and it went viral. So many have died since he's had to keep updating it. It now goes up to Ian McCaskill:

I can recognize 16 faces, but since I see Lemmy twice, I'll only score 15.
(and, no, I can't name all 15. I don't know the real name of General Akbar.)

Seriously? They really got funding for that?!
Mind you, two arches up from me is a rum distillery that's funded by one of the universities here.

That reminds me, the Ig Nobel Prizes were recently awarded. There was one for determining whether or not things look different when viewed bent over peering through one's legs. Their Peace Prize was awarded for a scholarly study called "On the Reception and Detection of Pseudo-Profound Bullshit". You can read the study for yourself here: http://www.arts.uwaterloo.ca/~dkoehler/reprints/jdm15923a.pdf

That's actually very typical of a lot of design agencies I've worked for. Totally self-centred.

One can kind of picture it, cruising out in the trans-Neptunian void, in a range where super-conductives operate spontaneously, with an essentially frictionless supermagnetic phase shield operating against the relativistic ablative stress of an interstellar excursion doing fast flybys of Proxima and the Alpha Centauri AB systems.

I've a strong hunch that Centauri AB will be dominated by La Grangian orbital mechanics and that something rather spectacular can be expected in the Centauri AB L4 and L5 orbits.

World’s oldest killer whale dies, at an estimated age of 100:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-38496164
According to Wikipedia:
Captain Pidcock of Ocean Ecoventures Whale Watching said "[...] it’s mind-blowing to think that this whale is over 100 years old. She was born before the Titanic went down. Can you imagine the things she’s seen in her lifetime?
…
Come on Captain Pidcock, she’s seen a lot of fish in her lifetime - that’s about it. She didn't play a pivotal role in the Cuban Missile Crisis, nor witness the release of Nelson Mandela. Neither was she in the stands last year as Leicester City won the Premier League.
But I'm sensing a meme here.
