Dr Anthea - ah who needs to learn things... just google it!

I think it may be some sort of joke along the lines of Glaswegians not being very hygienic... of course the fact that it takes a lot more than soap and water to stop ebola is another matter entirely

Absolutely, it's important patients get a proper diet. At Glasgow, they've a special menu - Monday: beans on toast, Tuesday: scrambled egg on toast, Wednesday: sardines on toast, Thursday: cheese on toast...

In fact, anything they can slide under the door.

Ah, that old casual racism thing.

There's been a second case in Cornwall now hasn't there?

Mocking anyone based on where they're born is racism.
It's also a pretty rubbish way of trying to get a cheap laugh.

I think the annoying thing here though, is that someone knowingly put themselves at risk of catching this horrendous disease, just so they could help others.

They did catch it, and it is lethal, and yet rather than thinking about how they and their families must be feeling right now, it's used as an excuse for a cheap laugh.

You'll just have to imagine my slow clapping as I say "well done."

I have to disagree.

The term racism is thrown about way too easily. Often it is used to squelch opinions as it is such a heinous accusation that reasonable discussion is effectively ended at its mention. For instance, look at how often any criticism of Islam is labeled as racism, even when the discussion is about philosophies and tenets of religion and NOT the people who practice that religion. Islam isn't a race and the citizens of a city are not a race either.

It can be bigoted, but it's not racist.

And intercity ribbing is not the same as bigotry.

A casual comment is different than going for a cheap laugh, guess it is the spirit in which it is taken

Eloquently put BG, but criticism and mockery are completely separate things, whether it be racism, bigotry, fascism or any other prejudice.

The original post wasn't a criticism, it was a mockery.

Ahem.

'Scuse me.

There was a llama on the loose in Manchester. I bet that was a bit of a bugger to catch.

My daughter gave me 'Ayoade on Ayoade'. He has some good examples of failed racism, including 'hurdling looks funny'.

Mocking Weegies is my birthright. To deny me this is to denigrate my heritage and my culture and I'm pretty sure I could come up with an -ism if I could actually be bothered but seeing as how the criticism comes from a sassenach clearly ignorant to the cultural idioms of my people ..
