I would not disagree with that...the irony that she is thanking the same god that others think doesn't want women to be educated just can't escape me.
Religion really is a poison.

"Religion really is a poison."
That's a whole 'nother thread, and more
I stick with my view that religion makes good people better and worse people worse

Well put NBB. Religion isn't poison, people are.

Alfster's link (although I don't understand why it doesn't 'hyperlink').
This story is disgusting. It shows massive political, legal, religious, but most of all, personal shortcomings.
The perpetrator here is weak minded and has allowed himself, and has been allowed to hide behind a ludicrous and vile system where state and religion has lost the plot.
And it is interesting to read the comments that follow the article. I think it is fair to assume that the commentees will reflect the views of people of all religions and none, and of all political backgrounds. There are certainly some very unpleasant personalities out there.
One comment leapt out at me. The perpetrator's photo is at the top of the article. he is wearing a 'lapel' mike for an interview but it does look like a cross. One comentator without looking twice (or thinking once!) declares the man to be a Christian. It's hard work out there with some of these people!

Re: Alfster's link about the Saudi case. On another thread people are discussing the bias and impartiality of the press. With the story of the Saudi girl, it's curious that the BBC totally omitted to mention that she had been raped "everywhere" - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-21281992
Still, some Islamic leaders have a solution to little girls being molested - burkas for babies http://english.alarabiya.net/articles/2013/02/03/264031.html

Religion is poison? So the cure is?
Sounds ideological. Ideology is the actual "poison". Check out your history.

Note the S after the http.
This is the new 'secure' standard of websites.
For some reason, probably security reasons, these
will not automatically become hyperlinks when posted
in public forums.
I guess this foils the Autobots because you must
actively copy and paste them into an address bar.

I cannot speak with authority but I suspect
that a lack of positive response to his long
rambling, stream of consciousness postings
took a lot of the fun out of it.
He did confess to me that he was feeling a bit
conflicted by the addictive rush of the opportunity
to share his vast storehouse of knowledge and the
juvenile reactions he was often abused with.
Occassional vacations from this site are often very
helpful in maintaining one's balance and sanity. I
do hope he returns.
That said, I tried my best to encourage his longer,
more detailed responses and regularly said how much
I did really enjoy the way he wandered through history
on his way to making a point. He knew how important
context is.
But then, one can only take so many

Or just keep them away from Islamic clerics...and Catholic priests... ... ...
as usual it's the fault of those sexually active hussy babies who haven't even got bowel control...which is more than those clerics who have no sexual control... ... ...
Allah must be sooooooo proud....

These sex offenders and monsters like this ...animal would have you believe that they have no control, that they cannot help it.
But they can! They exercise control all of the time! Otherwise you would have seen this preacher beating and raping this child on television right out in public.
I am not kidding; this is a major point in prosecuting these guys. First and foremost they are liars. As are their defenders.

What is more important. That the man was a rapist or that he was a preacher?
Do all preachers rape children?
Do people that are not preachers rape children?
Do preachers do anything other than rape children?
Is it possible that some preachers actually prevent other people from raping children?
What drives men to rape children?
Do all men have a natural inclination to rape children?
Is there something about being a preacher that drives men to rape children?
Or do rapists have a natural inclination to become preachers?
Is there anything in scripture that impels men to rape children?

Australian Crime Commission discovers widespread doping in Australian sports across multiple sports. The report said there were "clear parallels" between what had been discovered in Australia and the US Anti-Doping Agency investigation into disgraced Tour de France cyclist Lance Armstrong. The commission said it looked at the use of a new form of PIEDs (performance and image enhancing drugs) known as peptides and hormones, which provide effects similar to anabolic steroids.

That horsemeat story in England is getting
a lot of airtime here in Canada. It's seen
as a bit of comic relief since we've had a
few ecoli scares in our meat industry lately.
Anyway...
the story that has me entranced is the rogue cop
in LA who has the whole police department, the city
and half the state living in fear.
Six cops have been put 'on administrative leave'
after shooting at and wounding an innocent family
for having a truck similar to the rogue policeman's.

In a second similar shooting at an innocent vehicle
no one was reported being hit by police bullets.

Why do people have to bang on about this, it's so boring, just man-up. A bit of friendly fire, a bit of collateral damage is a necessary price we have to pay for our freedom and safety. The way I sees it, freedoms and peace are like my mothers beef omelette, you have to crack a few eggs to make it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCbfMkh940Q
