Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

To be fair though the "white, straight male" section of internet userdom is more than willing to rip itself to shreds as well.

I speak, of course, as a white, straight male who has witnessed the horrors the internet is capable of creating. I recognise the privilege inherent in being a white, straight male but also object to the stereotype that merely being a white, straight male makes one a misogynisic racist thug.

"I didn't see that happening in Ms. Penny's article."

Well, she quite strongly implied that all the hatemongers she encounters online are white, straight males.

That's not to say that white, straight males are innocent by any means... a lot of us are vile creatures. I just don't like us all being tarred with the same brush.

That's ridiculous, toybox!

But, apparently Luxembourg has a habit of sending kids to adult prisons:

12... 13... two weeks... suspicion... wha? I... actually have no words.

(and yes, I'm aware that my last few post are really just a member of the world's most privileged demographic having a moan)

Probably white, straight, male, conservatives or/and city bankers are given the "worse" press. Whether or not this is justified requires investigation. Perhaps the Daily Mail could dedicate a team to investigate the matter.

I can see it now: "Daily Mail special investigation concludes that white, straight males are the bestest people in the whole world. Especially British ones."

Ridiculous, yes. Sigh.

Ah, the UN Committee against Torture, with traditional UN enthusiasm, "recommended that Luxembourg refrain from placing minors in adult prisons for disciplinary purposes".

London Hootooers get down to Gaby's and help save it!!!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/dec/11/gabys-deli-theatreland-closure

"From first-night parties to snacks grabbed on the way to rehearsal, one small cafe has served the actors, dancers and musicians of London's theatreland for nearly five decades with reliable congeniality. Hit shows have come and gone, stars risen and fallen, but the falafels at Gaby's Deli have remained a crowd-pleaser. Until this Christmas, however, when the future suddenly looked bleak for the West End institution, as a planning application was passed for its redevelopment as a chain restaurant."

If it becomes a chain it will become the equivalent of the current internet website revamp style...white, bright and souless.

Now and then our Prime Minister does something which makes me actually res`pect him. . .

"A legendary fixture of Edmonton’s theatre community was remembered on Saturday with a funeral service that included a eulogy from Prime Minister Stephen Harper. . . .

. . . the mourners were surprised when the Prime Minister suddenly took the podium at St. George's Anglican Church. . . .

Harper's presence at the funeral wasn't announced until the eulogy."

Maybe Mr. Harper is smiley - cool after all.smiley - smiley

And this is definitely smiley - cool: "Glenfield's family has requested that in lieu of flowers, people go see a play."

Are we allowed to call Saudi Arabia a 'backward country' based on this.=?

Maybe that is a discussion for another thread but I wouldn't say Saudi Arabia is "backward", and I wouldn't use "backward" to explain this news story.

from that news story it sounds like she was charged with fraud as much as witchcraft.

although beheading seems a little drastic, even for fraud.smiley - erm
