Yes that name co-incidence...or however it came about is a truly delicious irony.
Dixon of Dock Green was about as decent, and brimming over with integrity, character that there has ever been on tv.

David Cameron furious at RAF Air Chief Marshal and Royal Navy First Sea Lord for saying the military is overstretched:
"David Cameron said: "There are moments when I wake up and read the newspapers and think: 'I tell you what, you do the fighting and I'll do the talking'."
He said military leaders were "absolutely clear" the mission could be kept going for as long as necessary.
"Time is on our side, not on Gaddafi's side," he said in a news conference.""
Clearly the extra costs will be taken out of British taxes and pensions...

'Burning of Lawrence Hill’s Book of Negroes planned for today' http://www.quillandquire.com/blog/index.php/2011/06/22/burning-of-lawrence-hills-book-of-negroes-planned-for-today/
For those who don't know, Lawrence Hill is an award winning African-Canadian novelist: http://www.lawrencehill.com/
'The Book of Negroes' won the 2007 Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize and the 2008 Commonwealth Writers' Prize. It was also chosen as 'the book every Canadian should Read in the 2009 edition of Canada Reads, a hugely popular radio/online book club here. In Canada Reads, it was championed by Avi Lewis http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avi_Lewis , husband of Naomi Kline http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCsQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.naomiklein.org%2F&rct=j&q=naomi%20kline&ei=4C0CTtb8Jaro0QH0hPzNAg&usg=AFQjCNGkz2recGbL8WwkMD3MrInbQg4cAA&cad=rja , son of Stephen Lewis http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCIQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.stephenlewisfoundation.org%2F&rct=j&q=ste%60phen%20lewis&ei=AC4CTtXjFsbl0QGVrYyZDg&usg=AFQjCNFfKrB2IBgEAYPLcA0YyhXhxX33aw&cad=rja and Michelle Landsberg http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CB0QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FMichele_Landsberg&rct=j&q=michelle%20landsberg&ei=IC4CTrHwOY2s0AHo2emXDg&usg=AFQjCNEfZCb9DJ2t2NJ6134iG7DbVPR9Gw&cad=rja . . . I could go on and on about Avi Lewis' achievements and pedigree, but I'd be drifting too far from Hill's wonderful novel. Suffice it to say that the devotees and defenders of Hill's novel are far bigger and do far more real work for the rights of people than does this little Dutchman with a lighter.
For what it's worth, I would argue that 'The Book of Negroes' is a greater novel than Rushdie's 'Satanic Verses' and I would love to see the same level of general condemnation of this Dutch Ayatolah as I remember from the days of the 'Satanic Verses' kerfuffle and I would enjoy international read-ins of 'The Book of Negroes' such as the one I attended of Rusdhie's book.
Someone should also point out to this arsonist that 'The Book of Negroes' *condemns* slavery most effectively and movingly.

I vote we also burn every copy of The Cider House Rules.
Licker ain't fer kids, especially unwanted kids and orfins!
We must stamp out any claim that Cider is the supereme
ruler of lickers. How can we be asked to overlook so many
other fine and potent potions.

Ten years after having been convicted for raping a minor, and after seven years in a prison, farm worker Loïc Sécher may well go free.
It turns out that the plaintiff has just admitted of having lied about the man's culpability, rather than betraying those who had put their confidence in her (parents, school teachers, and later policemen, judge, experts and the jurors of the two criminal courts who sentenced the defendant).
Sorry, cannot post a link, foreignese only.

I always ask, when convicted molesters try to justify thier actions by culpability as they always do , who is the responsible and mature adult here Who is responsible??????
Actions and consequences, the adult must take responsibility for the actions that are in breach of the law. Understand your responsibilty and we may progress.

Apparently the parents have incited their daughter to accuse Secher (I do not put the parents' good faith in doubt, mark you). They have apologised now.

Saw your PM reminding journalists that the UK
had long ago (wisely) decided to keep a distance
from the Euro-zone by retaining its own economic
system and the pound.
Found myself unwilling to argue with that.

Yes I think it was wise. My dad and I used to have big arguments about it..and he was right I think.
But we apparently have endless amounts to spend on stupid wars.
And people don't really want to be told what's best for them by anonymous Downing street sources.
