Suffice it to say that the devotees and defenders of Hill's novel are far bigger and do far more real work for the rights of people than does this little Dutchman with a lighter.

For what it's worth, I would argue that 'The Book of Negroes' is a greater novel than Rushdie's 'Satanic Verses' and I would love to see the same level of general condemnation of this Dutch Ayatolah as I remember from the days of the 'Satanic Verses' kerfuffle and I would enjoy international read-ins of 'The Book of Negroes' such as the one I attended of Rusdhie's book.

Someone should also point out to this arsonist that 'The Book of Negroes' *condemns* slavery most effectively and movingly.

I vote we also burn every copy of The Cider House Rules.
