Most of those answers made sense I was just idly wondering really, given that out gay actors sometimes have trouble being cast in straight love-interest roles.
Haven't seen the film but everyone seems to be raving about it. Maybe I'll make the effort at the weekend

>>I'm presuming the effect they wanted to give is that the two male leads aren't gay, they just happened to fall in love with a man...
That's it in a nutshell, Annie. Just after they've get it on for the first time, Heath says "I'm not queer!" I think Jake Gyllenhaal's character would have leanings that way anyway, but it's still broadly true - it's only because they've had a particularly intense experience that they become coupled so strongly.
So, I don't suppose anyone's seen Thumbsucker, then. Check it out if you get the chance

I've seen it Jack. Mentioned it here a week or two ago. Keanu is hilarious! Great film all round. Loved the Polyphonic Spree soundtrack too.

It's one of the few pleasures in my life, going to the cinema once a week (we also discuss films we've watched on TV and DVD as well) and discussing them afterwards doubles the pleasure for me.
Plus we can warn each other about the stinkers...
I can't wait to see Brokeback Mountain, all the glowing reviews here, plus I always suspected that there was an actor hiding inside Jake Gyllenhaal

I saw it and rather liked it. It was such a fun film I can’t really see what’s not to like but, it’d be boring if we all liked the same things.

just reading back, and i will be extremely brave here and admit to loving moulin rouge... and no hes very hammy in it but i don't think they were going for the best actor award.. more the whole concept....
i think pennies from heaven had that similar clout and very well acted too.. MR was not to be taken too seriously.. it had that circus high top feel through out... it seems you either loved or hated it...at least no one was tepid about it...
i have to admit not being keen on seeing brokeback mountain....not homophobic.. i have a gay daughter... but even so didn't relish seeing a film about unrequited gay cowboy love... just didn't do it for me.. and i know him outdoors would be uncomfortable...
but i see everyone loved it....i'll have to give it some thought..
hoping to see producers sunday.. i really hope it doesn't disappoint..will ferrell is in it and i do like him

Just re-watched Naked (Mike Leigh) with an incredible performance by David Thewliss - or at least I think so. The film on a whole is totally depressing though . . . but in a good way?

Indeed
I did like "Pennies from Heaven" with the wonderful Bob Hoskins.I can remember bits (and some big bits
) even though it's years since I saw it. A sign of a good film, I reckon (although, wasn't Pennies a series?)
I recall raving about Wedding Crashers here but never saw another reviewer liking it, maybe I'm the only one who is old enough to have seen The Graduate at the cinema, and the Wedding Crashers homage to that film had me grinning from ear to ear.
