Hmmm, getting back on topic...

I started dating a guy who had been a friend of mine for years (before and after my husband died).

We had quite a few friends in common, and I found out I was dumped when I learned he had introduced his new girlfriend (now wife) to every one of our friends except me.

I didn't forgive him for a couple of years, but we're friends again, even his wife, who it turns out, is really nice.

But it sucked.

Yes, it's about time this got back on track.

I've had my share of being dumped, and the reverse, but the episode that sticks in the mind is the case where I was dumped in a conversational aside in a crowded pub, when we were surrounded by most of our mutual friends. That one really hurt. I dragged the offender outside so as to share the contents of my mind. He said that he really didn't know how else to do it. I suggested that a billboard may have been more sensitive. Then he started saying things about how it wasn't my fault, it was all part of a Deep Dark Secret that he couldn't share, that he was really bad at relationships (what a surprise), and that he really really wanted us to be friends.

Strangely, we *are* still friends, even though I still dole out portions of the contents of my mind when I think they'll do the most good. Mind you, this wouldn't be the case if he didn't actually have a Deep Dark Secret. I've since gotten out of him what the secret is, and it does explain why he dumped me, why he couldn't work out how to do the job, and why he was deeply scared of how I'd react if he'd just told me the secret straight up. Ah, but men are complicated things, and there's no user manual - and if I can't work men out, all I can do is wish the women assembled here 'Good Luck'. And infinite patience, of course.
