I don't need a 'huge list of books'. I've got around 100 books at home that I haven't read yet (not even 'started and put aside'). A few years ago I worked out it would take me 2.5 years to read the 'unread' books if I read 1 per week. I don't think I've been reading at that rate, plus I've bought more books since I did that calculation. I don't think I'll ever clear the backlog. Still, I'm taking 2 or 3 'unread' books on holiday, so that will be a good start.

Apparantly in common with most of hotoo I have on many occasions failed to complete the Simarillion.
Most recently I got halfway through "The Diceman" by Luke err somethingorother starting with R!, and got distracted and never finished it...

Lizzbett, thanks for the correction - I'd forgotten about 'Agnes Grey'. But Emily Bronte is definitely a one-novel author.

The Diceman is by Luke Rhinehart.
Dicing is fun, but the book isn't as much fun.

Mine's also On The Road by Jack Kerouac. It really is very dull indeed. A synopsis would be: "I drove from one side of America to the other. It took a long time and I was stuck with this really irritating guy with ADHD. Then we drove home. It also took a long time. Once we got home we decided to do it all again, it not having been boring enough the first time."
Slow moving books I can handle. Plotless books I can handle. This was the worst of both worlds.

Also didn't finish Timeline by Crichton (sp). Felt bad about it. Listened to an abridged book-on-cd version that was good. Need to go back & read it now.

I just clicked on this thread to add "On The Road" but see it's already well covered! I stopped reading it about a year ago; I didn't intend to, I just never picked it up again. I'll go back to it this year.

Welcome back...
Seeing as the thread's alive again, I'll just mention my failure to finish 'The Evening of the World' by Allan Massie. It's a bit of a shame 'cos I like Massie's books - just not this one.

I'm in the middle of not finishing several books. They are all good books, actually. I just haven't finished them and don't know when I will.

My most recent 'unfinished' books are The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Charlotte Bronte and Oliver Cromwell by Antonia Fraser. I quit the first one part way through because I'd just finished two other Bronte books (Villette and Wuthering Heights) and I was starting to suffer Bronte burnout. I quit the second one because it was too heavy (physically and in content) for me to cope with.
I do intend to finish both books - eventually.

Idlewild by Mark Lawson. I had ordered the Twilight books, and the order arrived before i could finish it.. I know its shallow but i will finish it one day. Its a good book, but a bit strangely paced in some areas.
